I started rapping after watching 'I need a girl' by P Diddy on TV as a kid. I am opened to different genres like Gospel, Pop, R&B, Hip hop and reggae. I don't allow sexually explicit contents in the songs I make neither do I curse people in my songs. I don't have any problem with making you a love song as long as it won't be sexually explicit or be used to describe women or men as a sexual object. Interview with Daniel Music17
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The project I worked on that I am especially proud of is my song 'Life Of God', I am proud of it because even the people that heard the song in the studio were amazed by the song, the vocal performance and even the performance of the background vocalists. It is one of the songs I am very proud of writing. I was the singer-songwriter on that track
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now I am working on seeing if I can learning new music related skills and also I'm thinking of releasing new songs.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Non, that I know of, all I know is there are also great singer-songwriters and rappers on SoundBetter apart from myself and if my clients should look around very well they can be able to find. Everyone is good in their own way and always have something to offer for a project.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because that's what I'm used to
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to give you the best service you can ever imagine
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The freedom it gives, you don't have to be tied down by time which comes from 9-5 jobs. You can do it any time and God on break any time
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The commonly ask me whether I will be able to handle a particular project before they send me the beat (instrumental) to see if I can and after listening to the beat, I will tell them yes I can when it's something I can handle.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is people thinking that what I do is not a job or it shouldn't be what should be paid for. If people knew how difficult making good music can be even though it looks too easy they will appreciate what we do. I know making music may appear easy to the naturally talented but that doesn't change the fact that in some areas it can be difficult and it can also be generally difficult to the people that don't have the talent.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want and what is the topic or theme of the song?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know what you want and know if that music artist will be suitable for your project. If I am suitable for your project, then why waste time to hire me?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My microphone, my laptop, my audio interface, my DAW and studio booth.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Taking a trip down memory lane, I can recall that when I was a little kid I loved music but never wanted to do music, I even rejected the singing and only sang to myself most times but as time went on music kept on calling me and when I got to my senior year in secondary school (High School) I sang one day to my classmates and while I was singing they were screaming and after singing all the students started touching me and touched their chests after as if they were receiving some kind of blessing by touching me. I then realized that I was deceiving myself and was living a lie, so I decided to accept music and do it professionally because that's what I'm meant to do
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I sing songs, rap songs and write songs, I write melodies and lyrics.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Nothing describes my Style better than my artist name Daniel Music17. When you remove the 'Daniel' and the '17' you take the music that is what my style is all about, making music. Orderly arranging sounds in the way they will be pleasant to listen to. Make songs that will blow people's mind, great something people will never expect. The way I sound today will be different from the way I will sound tomorrow and the way I will sound tomorrow will be different from the way I will sound the day after tomorrow
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I don't actually have in mind the artist I will like to work with. Any artist that can be suitable enough for my project and I can be suitable enough for their project I am okay with that, as long as the project doesn't contain sexually explicit contents and doesn't curse people
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: For music production, I do know that the most important aspects are the song, the song performance, the instrumentation and the mixing, and any one who gets this 4 aspects has gotten what they need to produce their music professionally.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I am a versatile person. I usually do pop, gospel, r&b and reggae. Sometimes I can even sing like Sean Paul even though I can't the kind of English he sings with which patois.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is singing and songwriting even though what surprises me the most is the way I write songs because up to today I can't still explain how I write songs. Sometimes I can be walking on the road a beautiful song or a beautiful melody will come to my mind and I will start singing. When it comes to voice, I have a very beautiful voice that amazes people even though what surprises me is my songwriting because that gift can't be explained
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring mostly melodies and lyrics to a song. I can make up great songs with and without a beat, I can even create an intro with my voice
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I am naturally talented, so I write songs by inspiration, I listen to the beat and allow the beat to tell me what to sing or allow a beautiful sound to come to my mind without the help of any beat then I add words, if the song has already been written and I have to sing it I first learn the song according to the way it was written in it's original form then I figure out on my own the way I will sing it and the audience or the Listener will enjoy what I am singing and singing it that way, even if it were to be a rap song, I will also do it that way
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's basically a home studio setup, nothing fancy. I make use of the audio Technica AT2035 for recording and I plan on getting more expensive microphone in the future.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Right from the time I was a kid I really used to like Michael Jackson even though I usually didn't so much learn other people's songs since I believed I could make my own songs if I wanted to just entertain myself with songs. As I was growing as a child I also started listening to Don Moen a gospel music artist and praise and worship leader and started loving his work also. It was later after I grew up and started taking singing and music serious that some people started saying I sounded like Michael Jackson which wasn't a lie when I checked myself.
