As a bassist i'm always looking for 'the pocket and locking in'. I'm also a strong believer of the 'less is more concept' and just laying down a solid foundation that will suit the song best and leave room for others.
I've been playing bass over the past 35 years and played on quite some records in different musical genres, from soul and funk to pop, from afrobeat to jazz and from rock to americana. If you're looking for a very fast and technical bassist, please look further because that's not me.
I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Ton van der Kolk
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now i'm doing some remote recording and working on an alternative rock album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes definitely, my friend and partner in music for over the last 30 years, Phil Martin
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What it is they are looking for, if they have any specific songs/genre's/players in mind so i deliver something they're gonna like.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly record, pop, rock, country/americana, soul and funk stuff.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I hope to bring a human touch and feel to the song and some variation.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is basic, u work in Logic and record my basses mostly using an Apollo 8p interface and a Neve pre-amp. I'd like to leave most options open for the mixer so i don't use too much eq, or compression etc
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly i record electric bass tracks for clients. If a client has specific wishes or directions, thats all welcome.
