Interview with Julian Grimes
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Getting to work with amazing people and creating awesome music together!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the song about and what does it mean to you? What is the vibe/sound you want to go for with the song? Do you have any reference tracks?
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I always make sure that they are 100% happy with the end result.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please be very specific about what direction you want to go with the song! I highly recommend sending in a few reference tracks so I know exactly what you're looking for!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: That's a tough one! Probably my laptop, interface, speakers, a microphone and a fridge to keep the drinks cold.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been producing seriously for over 5 years. I study at a music production school and regularly have private lessons with some of the best producers and songwriters I've ever met.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Clever. Not sure if that makes any sense but I've heard multiple people describe my music that way.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Benny Blanco, he's a musical genius and just seems like a great guy to be around with!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to resist the urge to add a lot of stuff, the best songs are usually the simplest ones!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, dance and some occasional hiphop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Sound design, mixing and generally making stuff sound 'professional'.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A modern and radio-ready pop sound.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is a space where I can be creative and productive.
