Interview with Dmitry Sannikov
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Unfortunately I'm new to SoundBetter.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: For me, this is a very difficult question that requires answers to many questions: for what? What do you want to get in the end? How much time do you need to spend?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that many people think that if you work in a DAW, it does everything for you))) especially often happens when someone says that they work in FL Studio (yes, I also worked in it once)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career path was very long and slow, I have been making music for over 9 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Likely dreamy and emotional.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Agnes Obel, Stéphane Paut, Akira Yamaoka, Deryck Jason Whibley. These are my favorite artists, I really like their vocals, emotions and what they do.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually it: Alternative Rock, Pop Punk, Hip-Hop, Emo-Rap, Electronic
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: It's hard to say, most likely it is that I can bring emotion to the music. And of course I'm pretty good at making music with guitars.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually we discuss with the customer what he wants, in what genre, in what mood, perhaps he wants music in a certain key or tempo. I also ask you to send me the refrence of the track that is closest to what the customer wants to receive. After all, I write a raw demo version, and send it to the customer, if everything is good, a clean version is made.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I would not say that I have a huge studio with many musical instruments. An external sound card from M-Audio, an electric guitar and bass from Cort, a midi keyboard from Necktar, a vintage amplifier from Radiotehnicka and monitors, and AKG K371 PRO studio headphones are enough for me. I use Studio One 4 as a DAW.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I like a lot of musicians in very different genres, for example I can listen to Emancipator and then Sum 41 or Ludovico Einaudi and then Alcest. So you can give a lot of examples, I'm afraid it will be too long)
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: In most cases, I write music entirely to order according to the reference provided by the customer or his detailed wishes.
