Cade Hoppe

Indie Pop Producer/Songwriter

Cade Hoppe on SoundBetter

Multi-instrumentalist (piano/keys, guitar, sax, violin) producer + songwriter specializing in organic-leaning productions in and around the indie pop world—with a strong focus on serving the song. I work out of an 8x10 bedroom studio in Brooklyn stuffed with real instruments/gear and do everything I can to work as out of the box as possible.

Hey there, my name is Cade. I'm a keys-first multi-instrumentalist dabbling in piano, guitar, saxophone, and violin (I could never actually perform violin, but for production purposes I can make it work pretty well). I'm constantly learning and that's what I love about production—most of the time the best ideas are things you've never actually done before. You just kind of stumble onto them. As a songwriter first, I loved the way each song came together differently from the last, and I love that production can add even more variance to that process; for that reason, I'm a huge fan of letting the production inform the songwriting, and vice versa. I believe the best records require the best out of the songwriting, production, and the marriage of the two.

Growing up, I was heavily influenced by bands/artists like Coldplay, The Killers, Ben Folds, Taylor Swift, The Fray, etc. Those were really the artists that made me fall in love with songwriting; then, over the past decade I've been really drawn to artists such as Bleachers, Lana Del Ray, The 1975, Bon Iver, etc. and those artists made me fall in love with production. More specifically, I really look up to Jack Antonoff and the way his production philosophies revolve around organic instrumentation and experimentation to create these sonic landscapes that simultaneously feel both modern and retro.

Interview with Cade Hoppe

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: Early on, I spent a year producing with no outboard gear besides my Juno-106, so that would be my number one. My vintage MiniMoog Model D is probably my most inspiring piece of gear, so that's number two. My Akai MPC2000 has so many capabilities and sick samples, so that's number three. My Gibson LG-1 is number four because everyone needs a good acoustic. And then I'm not sure if I could transport an upright piano to a desert island or what the rules are on that, but I'm a pianist first so I want my Yamaha B3 piano as my number five.
