Really enjoyed working with Ana on this. She has such a lovely voice and is a gifted songwriter too. She helped write the song including lyrics & melodies, and went above and beyond to come up with harmonies. She’s also very easy to work with, very flexible and timely communicator. All around great work!

Interview with Ana Luchavez Maningo

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My first EP Oasis. It’s soulful, honest, and made for myself. I was the singer, songwriter, and producer.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My own songs, jingles for local companies, and dry recording sessions.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Still new here, so not yet.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. I started with analog, but I love how digital opens endless possibilities.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I guarantee not just good output, but a good relationship.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That magical moment when an idea lands, you hit replay, look at each other, and just know you’ve created something special.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: “How much is one song?” I usually ask back: What’s the vision? The price depends on where we want to take the song.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That this path doesn’t guarantee a future, when in reality, it’s about building one in your own way.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Why do you want to create? What kind of collaborator are you looking for?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Enjoy the process. While aiming for the best output, don’t forget to appreciate the spark of ideas. We’re often more amazing than we give ourselves credit for.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Starlink (for WiFi), solar charger, phone, pocket knife, and headphones.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started as a YouTuber wanting to do it all. Dance, sing, perform. Then I discovered songwriting, and once I learned production, everything shifted. From chasing the stage, I also wanted to create music with artists while being one myself.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Soulful, dream-like, and pop-driven.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Jennie (versatile and exciting..plus I’m a BLINK), Billie Eilish (she shifted my view with artistry), Bruno Mars (multi-talented—magic guaranteed), and Ed Sheeran (we’d probably vibe as friends).

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t overcrowd, and leave room to breathe for some parts of the song. Use saturation, compression, side chain, and room tone to make the track feel alive.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, indie, and R&B.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Translating moods into chords and melodies on the spot.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Fun, authenticity, and elements that stick and makes everyone in the room nod in agreement.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: We either start with chords/beats or a vocal idea, build a demo, define the mood and elements with the artist, and finish with mix and master.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I use SM7B, CM25 mkii, and AT2020 mics; Scarlett Focusrite 4i4; Novation Launchpad Mini & Launchkey 49; Godin ACS guitar; semi-weighted piano; and Logic Pro. We also have a vocal booth for clean takes.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Jacob Collier (his curiosity is contagious), David Foster (a true hitmaker), and FINNEAS (the perfect blend of artist and producer).

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I focus on idea generation. From songwriting (chords, lyrics, structure) and producing (from demo to arrangement). Then I collaborate with engineers to bring the track to a polished mix and master.
