Noreen Crayton on SoundBetter

I'm an Independent Music Award winner with my own in house gear which means I can work remotely.

I write, arrange vocals and coach singers into bringing their very best to a vocal. I am equally adept as both a background vocalist and a lead vocalist. I've been at it for more than 20 years and still love it!

Interview with Noreen Crayton

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Ronnie Milsap's gospel album. I co-wrote his lead single 'Up To Zion' which has been feature on Bill Gaither's show. Working on that album opened a lot of doors for me as an artist. I'm blessed to have been part of it.

  4. A: My 5th album

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet but I'll update you later!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital because it's far more flexible to work with in this day and age.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will always give you my very best and you won't have to wait too long. I update my clients every step of the way.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Creating

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What would you like for me to do? What is the goal for the project (is it a demo, is it for release, etc.)? What is the turnaround time?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Please be clear with what you're aiming for.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: If the desert island had no electricity: a large notebook, a pen, my guitar, a chair, a pitch pipe

  26. A: Mary J Blige, I love the way she bares her soul

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: When laying a vocal, be open to stepping away from the track for at least 2 days and then lay another one. You'll usually realize the first vocal is the more honest & heartfelt one.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: With my own music, I can literally go for hours on end:). When I collaborate with others, I'm interested in the concept and creatively first understanding what the person (the one with original idea) wants initially. After that if the creativity flows I can see if my own ideas will help the process. If the process is work for hire, I understand the goal, how time sensitive it is and bring it to fruition.
