Ordered a full track production from Mr Farstad and we are so excited about the track! You have an amazing talent as a producer Roar. All the ideas sounds like a million bucks after you helped produce, mix and mastering the track. Vocal mix and drums were truly on fire! Also thank you for the inspiring creative process together and top notch service along the way.

Roar Farstad is a producer and technician who I have known him for a few years. In that time, we have worked with pre-productions, productions and recording vocals and choirs. He always delivers products that elevate the songs. It is a great pleasure to come up with new songs for Roar. He sees possibilities that you don't always see yourself and is good at amplifying the expressions you want to bring out in the music. In 2024 I will launch my first full-length where Roar has been an important producer and technician. I have also had the pleasure of making music with him. Roar is a man I really

Interview with Roar Farstad

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I Co-Produced and played drums on Ronnie Jacobsen " These Blues In Me" in 2017. The record won a "Spellemann" (Norwegian Grammy") Best Blues Album the same year. I'm proud of being a part of that.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment I'm working on a Pop-project, writing and producing. Trying to make some good songs.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'll say Abbie Parker. She has provided great sounding vocals on many tracks that I've been working on for a client and she always delivers great sounding tracks.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. I grew up with the analog sound and love the depth and color that it provides. But you mostly can't work today without going digital at some point. The possibility are endless.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I'll help you to the finish line, and will give it my best.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The creative part of music making and mixing and communicating with people. I often have many good and deep conversations with my clients.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: I want to make "this" kind of music, how do I get there? Can you help med finish up my work?

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That it's an easy task. These things that we do require focus and dedication and I strive to give it just that.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: How can I help? What is your vision? And I usually ask for references if needed.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Know what you want, describe it as good as you can and don't be afraid to use "creative" words. I usually get what you're after. Communication is key.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My mac, Mpc-x, SSL Nucleus, an SM-7 and a pir of headphones. :)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My father started a studio when I was just two years old so I kind of fell into it that way. I started playing drums at 9 years old and 4 years later I layed down drums on my first record with an artist. Since then I've worked with everything from church and worship music to Hip-Hop and electronic music. I started making music in my fatjers studio in 1994 and have worked proffesionally since 2007.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Punchy and energetic while preserving the emotion of the song.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I'd like to work with Beyonce, because I think I can add something unique and make the beats and rhythms more interesting and slam harder.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Make the song work with few elements. Think about a band when you're producing. Usually you don't need a lot of tracks to make something work.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work on everything from Hip-Hop the EDM. I've also done a lot of 80's influenced music such as "retrowave" and electronic music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Overview. I usually can tell what the song lacks or need pretty fast. As a drummer I always tend to make sure the "ground work" is in place. Get it to work in the lows and it's often easier to build from there.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Completion. I strive to make it sound finished and try to always focus in on the details to make sure it sounds "like a record".

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: If it's a full production I always start with envisioning where I wanna go with the song, and find the direction with the artist. I usually start out with chords or a beat depending on the song. When the structure and arrangement is in place I tend to go into vocal-production. After that I always go back and add on fx and transitions if needed and make sure it's completed before I go into mixing the song. I usually mix through my hybrid setup, but sometimes I mix all "In The Box". Depending on the song and what I want.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My setup consists of an SSL-Rig; SSL Converters going through an SSL X-panda and SSL-Channelstrips and to an SSL-Sigma Summing Mixer. For Tracking I have an Apogee Symphony Rig, I mostly do my mixes in Logic, but also work in Pro Tools, Ableton and Studio One.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Prince and Michael Jackson have always been a huge inspiration. I'm also inspired by the works of Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, The Neptunes and artists such as Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia to name a few.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I usually help people with full production and Mixing. Sometimes additional production to their already recorded track. I also do a lot of vocal production and editing. I'm also a drummer and have contributed on many recordings since the early 2000's.
