I was raised in Santa Cruz, California and moved to New York City at 19. I began working at Jimi Hendrix' Electric Lady studios and learned production, engineering, and the creative life of a recording artist from the best during my 5 years there. I began touring and eventually was hired as Natalie Merchant's lead guitarist and backing vocalist. I worked with her for 20 years and also released 10 albums of my own music, multiple recording projects, as well as continual work with other artists. I am based between Denmark and Germany now and produce, play guitar and bass, sing, play keyboards and make beats. My latest project, Gate to Venus is a duo with the multi-talented Cecilie Beck. I am available to record guitars, bass, keyboards, program drums, lead and background vocals and production. Get in touch if you'd like to work together! My goal is to put heart and soul into every note to bring the listener into a song. I played on more than 120 albums over the years and am always open to working with new artists. Get in touch. The photo below is during the production of my latest release, Mr. Miller. L-R: George Laks (Lenny Kravitz), Shawn Pelton (SNL), Gabriel Gordon, Brian Bender (José James, KT Tunstall, Nate Smith), Andy Hess (Black Crowes, Gov't Mule, John Scofield).

Interview with Gabriel Gordon
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Light Blue Movers. It is band that was founded by myself and Deron Johnson (Miles Davis, Seal, Alannis Morissette). We got together and composed music in a few days that still haunts me. I played guitar and sang and co wrote the music. We recruited Adrian Harpham to produce and play drums and he did a fantastic job. The great Jonathan Levy played bass on the album. We had some guest singer on the album like Stephanie McKay, Leyeux, Julian Coryell & Katrin Hahner. The album captures a beautiful moment in time whilst still living in New York City.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: The 2nd Gate to Venus album. It is a project with Cecilie Beck and we are about to jump into vocal and guitar overdubs!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Mark Smith based in Kiel, Germany. He is one of my favourite producers!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To make you happy with the music.

A: It brings joy to myself and others.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What inspired them.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Let talk on the phone to see what is best for your needs.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Acoustic guitar, Neumann 87, Focusrite Scarlett, Laptop, Solar Panel with generator :).
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as an intern at Electric Lady Studios in 1991 and then started touring the world in 1994 with the Soup Dragons. I played on over 120 albums over the years and started releasing my own music in 1999. I was concurrently a touring and session musician, as well as a recording artist. I also am a songwriter and co-wrote with multiple artists in the US, Canada and all over Europe.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Vintage modern.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Daft Punk. I love the Random Access Memories album. I would love to play guitar and sing on a track of theirs.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?

Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Singing and playing the guitar.
