Interview with Matt LeMay

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: Trust your vision. If you did a rough mix that you LOVE but want it to sound "more pro"--get the rough mix mastered and trust that it captured what you wanted to capture.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: 5 Shure SM-7Bs.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: For two decades, I've been working as a music journalist, then a touring musician, then a mixing engineer and session drummer / guitarist.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: A gentle boost at 200Hz on the snare drum can help flesh out a mix nicely!

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Hearing the song that a song wants to be.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Creative remote mixing, with the occasional addition of live drums and/or guitar.
