I've been songwriting, singing, and producing since I was in elementary school, and my songwriting awards and 100,000+ Spotify streams are a testament to that. I can bring a professional, yet emotion-filled quality to your project. Let's make something cool!
Hi! I'm Jessica Taylor. I've always had a passion for music; I went to high school for music production, and plan on going to college for it. I've been writing songs and singing since 4th grade. I won a national contest in the elementary division for songwriting in 5th grade, and since then I've become a national YoungArts merit winner for voice (singer/songwriter), won an NPR Podcast Challenge with an original song, and racked up over 100,000 Spotify streams for my work. I've done multiple commissions writing and producing songs in the past. I'd love to help you with anything from producing your song to writing lyrics and melody. I can also sing on a project, and I know how to comp and pitch vocals. :)
You can find recent examples of my voice, songwriting, and production on my YouTube and Spotify, which are linked at linktr.ee/jessicataaylorr.

Interview with Jessica Taylor
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I typically help write melodies and lyrics, expanding on certain concepts or ideas you bring to me. (I can also just write over a track or chords, following a vibe, if you want.) I also do a lot of production work, taking songs in voice memos and turning them into full-fledged tracks. I have a lot of experience with vocal comping and pitching, especially for pop songs, since I produce all my own music.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My personal project at the moment is an EP that I'm writing, singing, and producing myself.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise I'll work hard to capture your artistic vision create a quality product filled with emotion! I'll take your feedback and revise it as many times as you need to get it sounding exactly how you want.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love getting to express emotions that people can relate to. Or, if they can't relate, making them consider a different point of view. Music reminds me that, no matter how you feel, you're not alone. I also just like making songs people can dance to. My favorite songs always put me in a good mood, so if I can do that for other people, it's awesome!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the vibe you're going for? Do you have a song or artist that you want the sound to resemble? What's the driving idea or concept at the heart of the song?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing songs since I was in 4th grade, and producing since around 5th grade. I started on GarageBand and moved up to Logic Pro X in freshman year. I auditioned and got into a high school for performing and visual arts, working in the music production division. Since then, I've released 6 original songs and racked up over 80,000 Spotify streams under the name Jessica Taylor. I'm hoping to one day be a self-sustaining artist, so right now I'm working on releasing singles and soon, an EP.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I switch it up a lot. I can do heartfelt, emotional ballad, or catchy, danceable pop tune. Recently I've been into anything groovy and feel-good. Lyric-wise, I've written many songs with a clear central message or even a plot, like a girl dealing with unrequited love or a family dealing with loss. However, I can also do more abstract lyrics that convey a feeling like wistfulness through imagery and the connotation of certain words.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work on pop music with elements of R&B, electronica, funk, and rock.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring years of professional experience songwriting and producing. Many people say the things I make sound like they should be on the radio. Being 17, I also bring a youthful perspective to songs that will appeal to newer generations.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I can start with anything: lyrics, melody, chords, or even a weird production idea. I usually develop everything kind of at the same time, especially when dealing with lyrics and melody. As long as I have a solid foundation or idea I'm going for, I can work with it.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use an iMac running Logic Pro X. My audio interface is a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 and my speakers are KRK ROKIT 8". For a microphone I use a CAD e300-2, and my keyboard is a Yamaha YPG-535.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Independent artists that make music in their bedrooms and garages like Still Woozy and Cavetown inspire me. I also really enjoy clean, tight, groovy songs by BENEE and the intricate lyrics and melodies of Samia.
