Interview with Moses van den Bogaerde
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing this for 17years. I was a recording artist, then an engineer in analog studios (Resident, SARM, Sensible), then a producer and finally a Mixing Engineer.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I love both; analog for character and digital for versatility and speed.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: An advert for the NHS, and Album for John Illsley (Dire Straits) and two singles for a new electronic duo.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing vocals and Drums.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is beautifully treated with some of the most neutral near-field monitors you will find anywhere. For listening to low end I have a full range system with a tight 8" sub by Presonus and coaxial monitors which make for great separation and three dimensional imaging. This means I can accurately work on frequencies down to and below 20hz. For mastering I like to use a professionally calibrated Revox B77 with either new 1/4" 911 or vintage 456 Grandmaster tapes (if I can get them!). I use the latest Universal audio converters and work almost exclusively at 96Khz.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Silvia Massey, Spike Stent, Bjork, Rick Rubin, Billie Eilish... Bowie.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing for recording artists. Composing for advertising agencies.
