Taz James (Studio Polyphony) on SoundBetter

🏆 Award-winning producer, mixing & mastering engineer, with a passion for excellence.🥇 RollingStone Metal Awardee and multi-nominee, JD Music Awardee, and more.

My name is Taz James, and I partner in running Studio Polyphony, a production house based in Trivandrum, India. I'm a multi-instrumentalist that regularly sessions for several artists and producers in the industry, and I professionally mix and master indie and corporate projects.

I'm most useful for creating a track from scratch, starting with whatever skeletal idea you'd have.
That being said, if you're an artist looking to write and release your songs, or a band looking for help in music production, mixing, and/or mastering, then I'm your guy.

I also have access to stellar industry-leading musicians and vocalists, if you're looking for session artists for the job.

Programming, mixing and mastering are my strong suits, and I'm known for my symphonic arrangements. I can add orchestral/hybrid elements to your song as well, depending on your requirement.

I have been hiring Taz to mix and master my projects for years now, and never have I been disappointed with his work. On the contrary, I was amazed at how he was able to mix my tracks so musically. As a producer I have hired over a dozen mixing/mastering engineers for my projects over the years, and Taz is the only one I am constantly comfortable with.

Taz is by far the most down to earth, intelligent, creative and imaginative music producers I have ever worked with. The output of an idea that comes out of his creativity be it arrangement, composing, mixing and mastering is just fabulous! I have done 8 songs with him which are in different stages of completion. He is and always will be my go to producer for anything music. If you are looking for a music idea to come to life, you must not look any further. He is the man for it! Trust me you will not be disappointed but only amazed!

Taz is one of the most talented artists that I have worked with. I gave him my idea, and he turned it into gold.

Interview with Taz James (Studio Polyphony)

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Why not both?

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: My favourite would be a project by an artist named Sam Moris. I've been helping him with music production, mixing, and mastering. I love working on this one not just because of the music, but mostly because of who he is as a personality. He inspires me whenever we sit to work, and I genuinely appreciate my time with him.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: My studio is a mixing & mastering setup that has evolved into a artist writing space. I have analog bus processors (Tegeler Audio Manufaktur Creme, and SSL Bus+), and my conversion are UAD Apollo, and my monitoring are a pair of Dynaudios, all hooked up to a very powerful PC.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: I arrange, play keyboards/synth, Piano, and program drums and bass for clients. I also mix and master my client's tracks.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I've mostly been blessed with clients that give me a creative space to be in, while giving me their personal inputs as well. And this has helped their final product reach unexpected heights. This collaborative creative effort into producing a final product, and finding pleasant sonic surprises, is what I love most about my job.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: Excellence.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I started learning Piano at a very young age (7), and then moved on to play keyboards for local bands and churches. Musically, I grew up with church musicians, which is where I found my love for gospel music, and then moved on to play for various artists around the country. 9 years ago is when I found my passion for sound, and then started taking up music production, and mixing & mastering jobs along with my session gigs.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: I'm a big fan of musicians and producers like Tuomas Holopainen, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, and John Williams. I also draw inspiration from mixing & mastering engineers like Chris Lorde-Alge, Kane Churko, Jordan Valeriote, Warren Huart, and Adam Nolly.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I always admired Tuomas Holopainen's arrangements, and I've always yearned to work with him.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Find your sound, yes, but never settle. Keep your music listening spectrum as wide as possible, and explore as many genres as possible.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Mostly symphonic arrangements fused with rock/metal genres, and I recently found love for the funk/jazz/gospel sound.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: I've been a Pianist for as long as I could remember. I then started playing session keyboards/synth for many stages, as well as records. I believe this is my strongest skill.
