Rob Q on SoundBetter

Mix engineer with over 20 years professional experience working with both high profile and emerging artists.

I love mixing, and I'm lucky I get to mix from a commercial recording studio with precision monitoring, over 100k's worth of beautiful classic analogue hardware and a space I've spent two decades getting to know. I take personal pride in making sure any mix I work on sounds release quality, and I won't be happy until you are. I'm comfortable and experienced working in all genres, please get in touch if you need any more info - thanks!

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with Rob Q

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Analog processing to start, then stay in the box. Analogue colour is unsurpassed, but you have to be able to make accurate revisions fast.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: If you have a limited budget, listen to reviewers tracks to get a realistic idea of what your mix might sound like. No-ones going to put a mix they did in 2 hours on their showreel.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: Started making tea in a commercial studio on the South Coast of the UK 20 years ago, became resident engineer after 3 years, worked 7 days a week another 4 years then bought the studio in 2009, and I'm still there today.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: EQ reverb returns

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: I'm fairly experienced in most genres, and always open to new ones.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Making you feel stuff.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: Most competent engineers can build a mix, adjusting levels, EQ, and adding some effects until it's technically mixed. For me thats a starting point, then the process of pulling the picture into focus to fully connect with the listener begins.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: After getting a feel for the clients needs I'll focus on creating a mix that has the vibe of the track front and centre.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I work from a great commercial recording studio and have done for many years. I know the monitoring inside out and have a wealth of hardware at my fingertips.
