Brad Taylor on SoundBetter

I provide radio ready sound with a fast turnover. My goal is to give you the mix that you want. Whatever your vision is, it's important that you are proud of your finished song. We mix until you are happy.

I have been a professional mix engineer, recording engineer, writer, and multi instrumentalist since 2003. I currently reside in Calgary Alberta, Canada. I have worked with many genres, but my specialty leans on the heavier side! I provide radio ready sound with a fast turnover. I have sat in all seats as mixer, engineer, producer and recording artist, roles that I am still active in, boasting numerous radio adds and top 10's. My latest release was in 2020 (see samples).

Interview with Brad Taylor

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: I use both as i see both of them being beneficial to the process.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I started with playing in bands, a couple of which had some good commercial success. This landed me in many studios working with top engineers. After years of playing, I naturally ended up behind the board recording, producing, and mixing other bands. I furthered my education in mixing and mastering through Berklee college of music once my career started heading that way and have professionally been recording, mixing, and mastering since 2003.

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: I would describe my style as musical yet aggressive but it depends on the material. Sometimes an aggressive approach isn't the best approach

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: The norm is hard rock, but I also work on singer songwriter, pop, and metal.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: I bring what is needed to a song. Sometimes the material requires punch and presence, other times warmth and depth. .What I do is dependent on the material and the clients wishes.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: I start by talking with the client and finding out exactly what they are looking for. Once I understand the project, I move into mixing.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: Most common work I do for clients is mixning.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I use a combination of analogue and digital processing for mixing and mastering.

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: Biggest misconception about what I do is everyone thinks all we're doing is making their track louder. We are making it louder but there are many steps in doings so. We also label and tag your materiel and put your ISRC codes in your tracks.

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: I get to hear a ton of great music and meet a ton of great artists!!

  21. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
