Hello, my name is Jan Listing. I am a music producer, mixing and mastering engineer from Berlin. I have been working on songs in various genres and different artists for almost 10 years now. As a singer and multi-instrumentalist myself, my roots are in Rock, Metal and Progressive.

I specialize in putting the finishing touches on recordings, even - and especially when - they could only be recorded with poor or medium quality. Since not every musician can afford an overpriced studio, but with still thousands of great songs out there, my aim is to get the best out of your music by all means. Through techniques such as re-amping, editing, sampling and detailed mixing skills, I can guarantee that your tracks will sound extremely powerful and professional after I've worked on them.

Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love working with different people and fulfilling their musical dreams to the highest level and experience the pure joy of a song that slams. :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been doing this for almost 10 years now. I have been working as a touring musician, songwriter in the Pop business for many years as well. That is where I learned that only the emotion of the SONG is important and that a track always has to have certain elements, that make it "work", regardless of the genre.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Passionate, focused on the song and efficient.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Use your ears first!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I mainly use Steinberg Cubase 10.5, UAD Apollo Interface, Focal and Adam speakers and a huge selection of top-class plug-ins. I mainly use Brauner Phantom Classic and Shure SM7B as my vocal microphones.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am a huge fan of Nolly Getgood and mid-to late 2000s mixing engineers like Tom and Chris Lorde-Alge. I think these productions have the perfect balance between hard-hitting in-your-face sound and emotional and detail-orientated arrangement. My aim is for every production to sound huge on every kind of speaker.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly mix and master material that is recorded by the bands themselves or their producers in their home studios, basement, rehearsal rooms or anywhere else. I specialized in making it sound like it was recorded and mixed in a high-class studio and In the end, it should be indistinguishable from an international professional recording.
