Interview with Elviss Pētersons

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: To be fair there's nothing I enjoy doing more than working on new music! I find great pleasure in doing that.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Ask questions, give as much details of your vision as you can, be sure we understand each other well and have similar expectations.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I've graduated music school and have been writing songs since I was 16 years old, and for the past few years I've been focusing on music more professionally. I've been very fortunate to work with great artists and award winning producers, who have taught me lots of great things.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Don't waste your time on small details in the beginning! When starting a new project, It's better to have a rough demo of the whole song, than getting stuck on the production until you've lost your drive to finish the whole thing.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Pop music, but have done some other genres as well, even country and rockabilly.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: Music has to give the listener some kind of emotion, doesn't matter what kind - music has to make you feel something.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: I never want to rush my projects. They always end up better if the whole production flows organically and is not done in a hurry. There's no particular formula for my work process. I just do what needs to get done and experiment a lot, cause that's where the best ideas are born.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I started building my home studio a few years ago, now it's pretty much finished. I work with Logic Pro X, have got multiple guitars, lots of great plugins, Audiofuse Studio, Lewitt 441 Flex and other gear.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Legends like Stevie Wonder, Dean Martin, Ray Charles, Tom Jones have inspired me since I've started doing music. I listen to lots of John Mayer and Bruno Mars too.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I'd say I'm best at producing and songwriting, so that's what I prefer doing more often. However I never put myself in any kind of box, meaning I'm able to help with more things like mixing, lyrics writing and pretty much anything else - really depends on every project individually.
