Interview with Ven
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: <a href="https://soundbetter.com/profiles/310287-ven" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ven profile on SoundBetter" ><img alt="Ven, Rapper on SoundBetter" src="https://d2p6ecj15pyavq.cloudfront.net/assets/SoundBetterBadge-c84cb3e75c4267f5bee41f7f617a81d9.svg" style="max-width: 130px;" /></a>
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Tbh, I don't even know the fuckin' difference.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I know the difference between a period and an ellipsis.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Pressing that muthafuckin' upload button baby!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Probably that I'm aimless.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the theme? What's a one-word suggestion you have for me? Who's your favorite rapper on XXL?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Start with hello.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A mic, my desktop computer, my audiobox, headphones, and a solar powered jackery battery, if one exists! Haha
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm a rapper, not a psychiatrist. I don't have clients.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Another open ended question.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: That's an open ended question.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: In boy-girl order right now I'd say: Mick Jenkins, Megan Thee Stallion, Kid Cudi, Sexyy Red, Ab-Soul, Glo Rilla, Jack Harlow, Doja Cat, Drake, Coi Leray, Logic, Ice Spice, Big K.R.I.T., SZA, Curren$y, Latto, The Alchemi$t, Cardi B, Smino, Asian Doll, Cousin Stizz, Rubi Rose, DC The Don, Mila J, Jeezy, Krystall Poppin, T.I., Yung Miami, Jay Electronica, Saweetie, Trippie Red, and BIA just to name a few... because I fuckin' love rap! #RIPLexiiAlijai🪦
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: "Alone In The Studio". That songs fuckin' touches the fuck outta me yo. That was my first attempt at doing some Kehlani-type singing and NV and I mixed and mastered it to perfection. If any of my songs could get a People's Choice Award it'd probably be that one. I also get the most feedback from that shit too.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My album: "The Artist and the Craft". Comes out December 31st, 2024 (if you're reading this and it's after that date then assume I'm working on my upcoming project which I'll let the people know when the release date is for)
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Nate "NV" Eaton. He's a mastering engineer that taught me a lot about what it feels like to lock in with one other individual and put out a series of dope songs.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been professionally recording since 2011. My goal is to make it onto Complex's "The Best Rapper Alive, Every Year Since 1979" list (and I ain't talkin' about an Honorable Mention neither 😉).
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: GET A MASTERING ENGINEER. I don't give a fuck who you are, you need a second pair of ears to make sure your shit sounds good to others and not just you (unless you wanna just keep doin' music as a hobby).
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rap, Hip-Hop, Alternative, Lofi; shit from Nigeria sometimes.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My pen game. Example: "Please pardon my manners. The pee is piled up more than "P's" in Pennsylvania."
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I'm usually alone in the studio with shit in the vault waiting on an engineer to hit me back on a song I sent out. I do this until a full length project is completed.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: That's my secret. But I'm very minimalistic.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, Drake, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Chance The Rapper, Kehlani, Larry June, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, J. Cole, Nas, The Game, Nipsey Hussle, Mozzy
