Michael was communicative his entire time, updating me on tracking and how it was going. Asking about any changes that need to be made and his ending result was fantastic. Supplying me with a already mixed drum track and the RAW. He goes above and beyond in all ways.
My collaborations with Michael continue, and he never disappoints. Michael understood the concept really well and he was able to put his own signature sound which elevates the song.
Great work as always! Collaborating with Michael never disappoints.
I knew I needed to work again with Michael and his powerful drums right after our first collaboration! He definitely delivered beyond what I was expecting, he provided a very versatile and high-quality sound and really understood the vibe I was looking for, taking my work again to the next level. The tracks for these 3 new songs came in really fast and surprised me in a very good way - I really recommend working with Michael, and I am looking forward to collaborate with him in the future!
Working with Michael was great, very fast - his work definitely helped my track get to the next level which I was looking for. I totally recommend working with him and I am looking forward to working with him in future projects.
Interview with Michael Farina
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: We don't give up on a drum track 'till its 100% right.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I'm always creating, always challenged, and always learning. There's never a dull day working on music.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I like to chat first, before setting up a session. It's not always easy to know who the right guy is for the job, and sometimes, that might not be me, and thats cool. I'm always honest, and if there's something I feel like I'm not right for, I'll tell you. Let's chat first, let me hear some of your music, let's got on the same page, and then nail it!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Started out touring in metal core bands, toured North America. Burnt out on that music, started playing live with whoever would hire me, genre didn't really matter. Learnt a lot from that!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly indie-pop, and indie-rock. The occasional heavy rock, punk or metal sessions come through and those are a lot of fun too!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My main concern is always making the song the best it can be. If that means I'm tracking only some kick drum and percussion, thats the thing, or it could be something super busy and loud. If the song, and the vibe is right, I've done my job!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Focusrite, Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, Rode, 12Gauge Microphones. Logic Pro X. Tons of drums/snares/cymbals and percussion.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Aaron Sterling, Blair Sinta, Josh Freese, Ilan Rubin, Abe Laborier Jr., Jake Reed, Dan Bailey, Kenny Aronoff
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: A client would generally send me their track, without drums, or sometimes with a demo of a vibe they're looking for. I take it from there, work out the right sounds, and parts for the song. And send them what I believe is THE take. From there we could make adjustments, whether it's the parts or sounds. We adjust from there 'till we have the best possible take for the song.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Generally, my main role for a session is to send mix-ready drum stems of the best possible performance. Lately, the genres that tend to "come through my door" are rock, indie-rock, pop-rock, alt-rock, alt-pop, metal. Basically, rock & pop, and most of the sub-genres that fall under those umbrellas. "Meat & potatoes", solid drumming.
