I'm Julie! I believe that the most important part of singing is telling a story. My classic sound was inspired by the folk singers of the 60s & 70s. Most notably, my duo The Running Mates has over 150k subs on YouTube and upwards of 15 millions views. Let's make music!
Since graduating from Berklee College of Music, singing has lead me on the best adventures. I was Ariel in Disney World for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show, cruised around Australia with P&O cruise lines and was the house vocalist at the St. Regis Resort in Bora Bora. I relocated to Nashville during the pandemic and have been playing writer rounds all over town.
I've been singing as long as I can remember. The voices that influenced me as a young girl were Stevie Nicks, Karen Carpenter and Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries. As a vocalist, I strive to tell a story in every song I sing. My bread and butter genres are singer/songwriter, folk (& folk-rock), and country but I am well versed in pop, jazz and rock as well. My husband and I have an acoustic duo called The Running Mates. We've gained over 150k subscribers and more than 15 million views on our channel. Please feel free to check it out to get a better sense of my wide range as a vocalist.
Do you need a song for a special occasion? Let me write one for you! I also offer song feedback and suggestions for your original music.
*I want you to be happy with the finished product and I try my very best to nail it first time around but if you need revisions the second take is always on the house, after that each additional take is $25.

Beautiful unique singing and very professional. Quick turnaround time also. Highly recommend!
One cannot say enough nice things about Julie, and having her work on vocalizing my tracks. She's a super hard worker and has great consistency when completing the different projects, so many thanks.
I'm determined to find something that's a real challenge for her to do. I think I found it!!! "Welcome To My Dojo" is the name of the next track. Good luck in advance Julie - hahaha
Julie knocked out two more songs for me. She did it quickly, and surprisingly there were no changes that needed to be made. It's pretty amazing work because one of the songs was 06:30 minutes in length with full backup vocals.
Guess what J
That's right, two more songs are coming over for you to quote.
The gal has skills, she brought the song alive with her vocal tracks.
Much thank Julie.
The tracks that she vocalized for me went through without a hitch. She nailed it the first time, without any reworks. Certainly a musician that you would want to partner up with - I immediately gave her another project to quote.
It was great working with Julie. Her works met my expectation—very high-quality vocal recording, fast response, and easy to communicate. I highly recommended her to new customers. I will definitely work more with her in the future.
First track working with Julie... she has an beautiful voice and did an exceptional job on a track that was not easy. Really great to work with. Look forward to working with her again!
Julie really knows how to do harmonies. She did a fantastic job.
Julie is awesome, I will definitely be asking her to lend her vocals again.
As ever, just fantastic!
Working on a second track with Julie! She’s simply amazing to work with and super gifted :-)
Julie is an absolute gem!. Amazing! amazing! voice! She took a really bad scratch vocal, still kept all the inflections i wanted and made the song brilliant! She was always quick to reply no matter the time difference between her - and very professional when asking for backing tracks in a key which did her voice and song best justice. She has inspired me to write more songs with her voice in mind! Im very happy! Thanks Julie! Thanks SoundBetter!
2nd song with Julie and 2nd great experience. Really fun and flexible with just a tremendous voice.
Wow. Julie's performance and professionalism are off the charts and her talents turned my track into something really special. Can't wait to work with Julie again.
Beautiful voice and a joy to work with!
Another fabulous experience with Julie. She will make your musical vision come true!
Julie is simply the best. Gorgeous voice, listens to feedback, adds suggestions -- all with a lovely demeanor. You want her to bring your vocals to life!
Julie has an awesome voice. I used a song that she and husband did. They're called The Running Mates, and the song worked so perfectly with my project. It was absolutely meant to be. Julie couldn't have been easier or better to work with. I'm a happy customer for sure.
Julie is a wildly talented vocalist and a delight to work with. Professional, responsive — 5 Stars!!
100% outstanding. A pleasure to work with. Highly recommended.
I met Julie through NSAI. We both had a song selected for an On-Line pitch. I listened to more songs by her and The Running Mates. I was in awe of her song writing, guitar work, and beautiful vocals. Plus the fact she was Ariel, I knew I wanted to work with her in any capacity.
Julie and I collaborated on a few songs. She contributed the melody/alternate lyrics to our song, “Damn You.” She provided vocals to a few other songs for demos. Julie is always courteous, professional, and delivers top quality, produced tracks. I highly recommend her for any of your songwriting/production needs.
I have worked with Julie on several projects for creation of quality demos and songs for sync. I have always received very positive feedback in terms of musicianship, vocals and production.
Julie’s vocal quality and style reminds me a lot of two of her stated influences (Karen Carpenter, Stevie Nicks). She shares the same richness and expressiveness in her singing. Check her out singing a cover of “Landslide” and you’ll see what I mean - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_T_PcDaUlDg . In my opinion their version, with Julie singing, is every bit as good as the original.
Interview with Julie Lavery
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I wrote a song called "The Answer" and recorded it with my husband from our home studio during the pandemic. It's about my relationship with religion and I think it's one of the best songs I've written. It got a little radio play in Nashville....maybe more in the future (fingers crossed!). It's on Spotify under Julie Lavery if you want to check it out.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Becoming a professional songwriter : )
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Spencer Broschard...he's an incredible guitarist...I'm a little biased because I married him but I wouldn't have married a bad guitar player I can promise you that!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I'm not much of a producer...I use digital and it's easier but I think analog sounds better.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to deliver my very best every time and if you need revisions we will make them until you're satisfied.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everything. Singing for a living is a dream come true. Getting to work on so many different projects keeps everyday interesting.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Am I available to work on their project?...YES.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think that I don't have a soul...but gingers are people too : )
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What singing style are you looking for? How quickly do you need this project finished?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just have the instrumental track, the temp vocal track and the lyrics ready to go!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My guitar, my phone, my laptop, my Scarlett and my microphone!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would like to think that my voice has a classic (and hopefully timeless) quality. I don't like to over sing or add a lot of flowery notes.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't forget the pop filter!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Country. Folk. Singer/songwriter. Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Singing...la la la la la
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to listen to the song and read along with the lyrics 4 or 5 times before I do anything else to familiarize myself with the story. The I start breaking it down and learning the melodies in sections.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Fleetwood Mac, Joy Williams, The Cranberries, Bonnie Raitt, Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy and so many more!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
