Interview with Antonio Duarte
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: References! I try to understand what they listen to, what music moves them. Sometimes, if it's not the same music that moves me, I'll advice to look for someone that would be in the same page. If music doesn't come form within doesn't work! Sounds cheesy but it's not! I don't think any professional can do a great job on a song that is not in his/her native "musical language".
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Try to find a Professional that loves the same style of music you love. Music is a language that has many dialects. You want to work with someone that speaks the same dialect.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Nowadays that's so easy! A powerful laptop loaded with a DAW and plugins (including amp sims to play guitar) A pair of good Monitors A guitar A bass A fishing rod for pass time!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 15 years teaching guitar and working as a guitar player. As a guitar player get hired by several artists for live gigs and play a lot corporate gigs with cover bands. Been mixing and mastering professionally for 3 years now, but I've been doing it a long time for my self, as a favor for my fellow musicians and for my students. The requests just got out of hand so I decided to go professional.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Loud and Clear!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any progressive metal band. Dream Theater, Symphony x, etc... Because the songs are very dense orchestrationwise, but still need to be loud and clear! Great challenge that speaks deeply to my heart.
