Polished, Powerful Mixes

Dave Boothroyd on SoundBetter

Your vision & creativity deserve a mix that captivates your audience...and that's what I help with. I'll work closely with you to create a mix that brings your vision to life and that makes an impact! Whether it's Rock, Indie or Pop, I specialise in delivering powerful, exciting & emotionally engaging mixes that resonate with you and your fans.

When I mix for you, my only goal is to realise your vision—both sonically & emotionally. To help me understand your goal we will discuss your vision and any influences, I will also ask you for a few 'vibe references' to help me further understand your sonic goal. After you receive your first mix, we’ll revise it remotely to match your taste. Revisions are unlimited (within reason) and free. Most mixes take no more than three rounds. To streamline the process, please have one person consolidate all revision notes into a single document, in chronological order. Keeping revisions in one email thread will also help us work efficiently.

I have mixed and produced records for renowned artists such as Chris Helme (The Seahorses), Joe Johnson (Shed Seven) & Stay Free (produced by Jason Perry). I have also worked as an assistant engineer on high-profile projects including, Blink-182, Busted, Don Broco, Romesh Dodangoda, Bring Me The Horizon and Kerrang TV, among others.

If you're an artist/producer/label/manager looking for a mixing engineer or producer who is as dedicated to your vision as you are, look no further! With an upbeat approach, unwavering enthusiasm, and dedication to elevating your sound, I am the perfect team member to help you bring your creations to life.

Interview with Dave Boothroyd

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both - analogue (in the most part) brings a level of depth, warmth and flavour that just isn't there yet in the box in some cases. Digital is a plus for it's recall-ability, plus I can use multiple instances of my favourite processors without needing to be a multimillionaire.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will always work on your music with you and your goal in mind. Obviously initially you will receive my impression of your vision, but from there I will work with you to get your project to a place where you are proud to have it represent you and your creativity.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I love collaborating with different creative minds.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: Where did your inspiration for this track come from? What is the song about? What emotion are you trying to evoke from your listener? What are 3 sonic references as to where you would like your track to end up? How quickly would you like to turn this round? Do you have any questions for me, or is there anything you'd like to know about the process?

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: Knobs, buttons, and multitracks aren’t my only passion; my first love was drumming & songwriting. My introduction to the music industry was through touring as a drummer in numerous pop-punk and skate-punk bands. From the age of 16, I toured the US, Europe, and the UK, releasing music with record labels in Japan, the US, the UK, and Italy. I was always interest in the mixing and production side of music, but I guess my professional career started around 15 years ago.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would LOVE to work with Jon Bellion on a project - he's got such an incredible creative mind and is clearly an extremely talented producer/songwriter/musician. I would imagine it would be an inspiring experience with insane amounts learning.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Serve the song, not your ego. Every decision—mixing, arrangement, effects—should enhance the emotion, not distract from it.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I work on a variety of genres as I prefer to focus on elements inside a song that make me tick - for example I'm a lover of...Bold & in your face things...especially vocals; hefty / expansive rhythm sections; hooky vocals with HEAPS of melody; fun little pieces of 'ear candy' & moments of surprise; anything with pop-sensibility! You can find these things in pop, metal, rock, country etc so I'm happy to work on anything, providing I can vibe from it, because if I can't it would be unfair of me to accept the project.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My understanding of how to translate a conversation about vibe into sonics.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: ...the artists vision to life and beyond!

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: I find anyone who dedicates a lot of their time, focus and attention to honing their craft inspiring. A few key names though are Jon Bellion, Mike Crossey, Jaycen Joshua, Josh Gudwin, Rob Kinelski, CLA (Of course)

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I work from my own private studio, currently in the stunning city of York, UK. I mix into a hybrid set-up, so if you like a little bit of the that analogue goodness baked into your sound, I've got you covered.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Mixing, Production & Co-Production
