Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Composer. Writer. I always dream BIG.
Hi!
My name is Shannon and I'm a pop singer/songwriter, composer, music producer and audio engineer. I look forward to working with you!
About me: I'm from Lake Tahoe, California where I started composing on the piano at the age of 4. My love for music turned into a passion for dance which lead me to become a professional ballerina with the San Francisco Ballet for 11 years. I performed the lead in the TONY Award winning Broadway musical An American In Paris in 2015 before I decided that I wanted to focus on my own pop music — best decision I've ever made.
I was introduced to Bart Schoudel, a GRAMMY nominated and Latin GRAMMY winning producer (Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and every pop star you've ever heard of) and have learned all his tricks to record and comp the perfect vocals. I've spent the past 5 years working with hit songwriter and wordsmith, Alexandra Forbes, who has taught me how to write pop songs/lyrics, and have trained with some of the top vocal coaches in both Broadway and the pop world.
With my 20+ career in the performing arts working alongside world renown artists I have a built-in work ethic that always gets my clients what they need while always creating an easy working environment — because life's too short not to have a fun while creating!

Interview with Shannon Rugani
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am proud of my EP, We Own This Crown. I sang everything, recorded the piano and drums live for a few of the tracks, came up with all of the music and lyrics and worked closely with Bart Schoudel on the production as a co-producer. I truly felt like I was in the drivers seat of my career for the first time in my life.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Two albums, a bunch of singles, remixes and a half hour symphony I wrote.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet...
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because we live in the 21st century.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will love the outcome.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to live my seven year old self's dream.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: It varies depending on each project, and my answer is always "yes".
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I only sing pop. Because of my Broadway background and vocal training, I can literally sing anything. I could sing the phone book and make it sound however the client wants it to sound.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What the goal is for the client, what style or feel they're going for, budget and timeline.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Ask me anything! I'm here for you.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Computer, Microphone, Piano, my Focusrite interface and a big external hard drive.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing music since I was four, have been singing professionally since I was 19 and have been an audio engineer/music producer for about 5 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A healthy balance of pop and singer/songwriter.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Finneas, because he's a true artist. Oh! and Max Martin — because he's Max Martin.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't add too many plugins while recording your VOX or else you will have that annoying delay! Always mix and master once you're happy with the production and vocals.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Singing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I am a natural songwriter and composer. I'm flexible yet I make sure that I aim high to get the best product out of each project. I usually aim to write songs that empower people. As far as vocal recordings, I'll make sure I knock your socks off!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It all depends on the project the budget and the timeline. I work around my clients needs and make sure they get what they want.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've got everything I need at my home studio from a Shure KSM32 mic and kaotica mic pop filter. I use Logic Pro X, Ableton, Ableton Push and have a couple yamaha keyboards.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I've work with award winning producers like Bart Schoudel and admire what Finneas, and the chainsmokers are doing in the studio. I'm inspired by vocals by Adele, Beyonce, Sia, Camilla Cabello, and Bruno Mars. Writing styles I admire are Taylor Swift, Sia, Billie Eilish and Sara Barellies.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I record vocals, I write songs and perform them. I write music, lyrics and production and finish it off with the mixing and mastering. I can comp and tune vocals and sing backups (or make them up).
