Marelius Studios

Session Musician & Producer

Marelius Studios on SoundBetter

I approach every project as if it were my own work. No cookie-cutter production or performance comes out of my studio. No matter how small the role I play, I will invest myself creatively and professionally into your project—we are in this together! Ultimately, I understand it is YOUR project, and I will do all I can to meet or exceed your hopes!

Do you have a song in your head, but you're not the greatest singer? Or, you don't play an instrument? Maybe you just don't have the ability or knowhow to record. How about an instrumental backing track? You've come to the right place! Whether you want a professional sounding demo to shop your song, or a recording to melt your special someone's heart, we will make it happen.

I have over a decade of live performance and studio experience, backed with a college degree in music composition and performance. I am a singer/songwriter and producer specializing in vocal and guitar work. For larger production work, I have a team of top studio players ranging from LA-Based rhythm sections to Grammy-Winning Nashville string and horn players. If more production is wanted, we can discuss rates! Need help with the hook (chorus), no problem. I record out of my isolated and dedicated home studio using professional hardware and software.

Interview with Marelius Studios

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: I will make sure what I provide meets—or better—exceeds what you hear for your project.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: My Taylor 314 acoustic; a bass; a drum set; a piano; and a tambourine—not only is a tambourine a fun instrument for the non-musician, but I feel it is one of the most effective sounds you can add to a song’s energy and sound.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I grew up in a music family, performing as a group even throughout my childhood. I started formal music in elementary school, studying trumpet (which I studied and played professionally all the way through college). In high school I began writing and performing with my sister. After getting a composition degree at Skidmore College in Upstate New York, I began playing music full time. I have now been performing in all kinds of ensembles, recording studios, and live venues for 20 years.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Retro

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: I would love to work with Paul McCartney—need I say more?!

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Let the song tell you what it needs—don't force anything.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I have been hired for a lot more rock projects recently.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Finding the soul and sound of a song and connecting it with the artist's vision.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: First and foremost, I bring the passion, creativity, and dedication I bring to my own projects. I have played and listen to ALL kinds of music from all around the world and I am able to pull from those references.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I like to spend a day internalizing the song(s) I’m working on, and really get the feel of it. I then start to sort out my parts and record some ideas, which I typically share with my client before getting too deep. Once the client has approved, I then go on to finish tracking and tidying up the session.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I have converted our garage into a dedicated recording studio right at home here in Fullerton (on the edge of LA in Orange County). I have a range of guitars, keyboards, and miscellaneous toys like didjeridoos and xylophones, and I just recently, added drum set! I have every UA plugin, the Soundtoys suite, Komplete Ultimate, Waves—you name it!

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: Despite being young for 50s and 60s music, that is what I grew up on and love more than any other music. I love real acoustic instruments being played by real musicians. Give me The Wrecking Crew any day.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Most of my work has been lead vocal projects lately. Those gigs range from emulating classic groups like The Rascals to gentle showtunes, all the way to modern heavy metal.

  27. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  28. A: I will make sure what I provide meets—or better—exceeds what you hear for your project.

  29. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
