Mikey G on SoundBetter

Award-Winning "Producer of the Year" 2024 recipient at Los Angeles Academy of Artists and Music Production (LAAMP), mentored by legendary Grammy-winning Production duo Stargate. Also an award-winning vocal producer/director/arranger of vocal collective "Musicality" (America's Got Talent semifinalists).

Hi I'm Mikey! I am a Los Angeles based Music Producer who specializes in creating dramatic, theatrical, and cinematic music, regardless of genre. Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Dance, Country, and Jazz are just a few genres I have explored. Regardless of genre, I always bring my unique flavor to the production. I love mixing organic elements (especially strings, horns, piano) with synthetic elements. I have trained on over 17 instruments, so my arrangement skills are also at the highest level. I have extensive music theory and harmony training which allows me to write vocal harmonies as needed, and I also have 20 years of choral/vocal/musical theater experience, so assisting singers at a musical and technical level is second nature to me. I am a professional and friendly musician who aims to make the creative process as smooth and pleasant as possible for everyone involved.

Interview with Mikey G

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Working on details on countless records right now after recently finishing my 9 month tenure at LAAMP (Los Angeles Academy of Artists and Music Production). I have over 60 songs to go through and finish up.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I promise to work very hard and create something that all collaborators love.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The collaboration! It is very important to find producers that are willing to be collaborators, as collaboration is a key element in the music industry. Look for providers that are going to bring themselves to the project, but also leave room for the co-writers and artist(s) to bring themselves to the project as well

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: Who are your favorite artists and/or favorite songs? How did you get started in music? Why do you want to be a musician?

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Ask to hear more music and listen to it all! You need to make sure that provider you choose is a good match, and you will often find that answer in their music.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I taught music for 13 years, then became a music producer after that.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Cinematic Theatrical Pop

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: There is not a particular artist I'm dreaming of working with, but I do want to work with an artists that are as serious about their craft as I am, and that release music regularly.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: My main tip is to find YOUR sound. Pull from your own life, experiences, and history to find what makes you unique, and put that into your production.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I work mainly on pop, but also work on R&B, hip hop, country, folk/acoustic, dance music. I do not limit myself to any particular genre, especially because I have a huge respect for all music regardless of the category.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Best said by my mentor Tor Hermansen of Stargate, "you have your own point of view, you have your own unique style, and you're able to insert that into every room and into every challenge that you're given." This particular style is often known as "bringing the drama" as I love to have big moments in my music.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I bring top-tier arrangements, exemplary vocal production, harmony ideas, and unique professional production aesthetic that is fresh and new.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: If songwriting and producing, I will begin with a talking session with the artist/writers to get to know each other and become more comfortable. After this, I will talk to the artist about what type of song they want to create and ask for any references. I tend to start from scratch and work organically, but depending on the artist/song, I also can pre-make a song starter to get things going.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: I am inspired by producers who are also artists such as Jon Bellion and Ryan Tedder as well as writers who are artists such as Taylor Parx and Julia Michaels. I pull inspiration from cinematic composers like Hans Zimmer, Ludwig Göransson, Danny Elfman, and John Williams. I also am inspired by theatrical composers like Lin-Manuel Miranda and Pasek and Paul.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Production, songwriting, harmony writing, and vocal producing/coaching are the main types of work I do with my collaborators.
