Matt Sperrazza on SoundBetter

I write and produce commercial pop music, sometimes leaning singer-songwriter, sometimes leaning pop rock. I write fast, and we'll get a catchy melody with lyrical depth - I'm all about combining commercial sounds and true lyricism. I've accumulated over 500k streams completely independent, no label support at all.

WHO I AM:
I'm a songwriter, producer, artist, and vocalist across multiple genres including: pop, singer-songwriter, folk, rock, rap, and musical theater. Influenced by the likes of Jon Bellion, Brandi Carlile, Billy Joel, and the Band Camino - I've written and produced multiple different sounds for both myself and my clients. I've accumulated over 500k streams as an unsigned artist, completely independent of any label support. I'm a writer on every song I've released, to check them out look up "Matt Sperrazza" on Spotify. Additionally, I graduated from Belmont University (Nashville, TN) with a degree in Songwriting.

WHAT I DO:
As producer I will work around the vision you already have for your song, helping you with the big picture and minute details. I can also be brought on as a writer for a track or project. I have a network of unbelievably talented musicians ranging from bass to kit to vocals and can hook you up with GREAT players for any piece of the track we need - you won't have to worry about quality!

One of my greatest strengths is editing lyrics and melodies. If you're interested in me acting as a writer on your track (which I'll always ask before getting involved if I'm hired to produce) both the lyric and melody will be commercial, catchy, and unique!

I'm a vocalist - for a reference you can hit the preview above or check out my Spotify.

Matt brings a delightful energy to every write. In the handful of times we've worked together, I've been impressed by his musicianship and ability to truly craft and shape sound. He pushes the envelope and isn't afraid to challenge the song to be the best version of itself. A fast-friend and a remarkable vocalist, this is the man you want on your next project!

Matt is an absolute gem to work with. As a writer, he comes up with the coolest vocal melodies and there's an epic quality to everything he touches; he's perfect if you're looking to pen an anthem. As a producer, the man has an incredible knowledge of music theory and works crazy fast, creating high quality productions with a ridiculous turn around time. His creativity is also off the charts and he always comes up with those small production details that transform simple demos into hits. Truly, Matt is one of my favorite musicians in my circle and he will take your songs to the next level!

Interview with Matt Sperrazza

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: 2 Rokit 5 monitors, Duet Apogee Interface, Blue Baby Bottle mic, Logic Pro X primarily, but could translate it to a Pro Tools session if needed.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I promise honesty and fairness. I'll never pretend a lyric or melody is better or worse than it is, I will always "serve the song".

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I love to tell stories.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: we always make a collaborative playlist on Spotify for references and influences for the track, that way we find ourselves on the same brainwave.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: the keys are all I need.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: I'm a commercial pop writer/producer/singer but can write a deeply intricate lyric.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Always compliment the song with your production, don't forget why your adding each part. Also, overproduce and then pull back, no bad ideas.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Pop & Singer-Songwriter are the two I find myself hired for the most.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My songwriting and producing are often intertwined, both of those things. As a vocalist, my range is wide and I've got a powerful, punchy voice.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I'm often the "melody guy" in the room, but my lyrics are strong as well. I help nail down the story. As a producer I'll level up your song with the appropriate amount of supplemental instrumentation and counter melodies. Approaching the tracks as a songwriter helps my production style because I don't forget to tell the story through not only the lyric and melody, but the production itself.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: Typically I write and then produce the track. Even in the case of producing for artists that come to me with songs, I am often brought onto the project as a writer. Depending on the genre we want our melody and lyric, the bones of the song, done first. Then we work around and build from the foundation up, finding the sounds that compliment our story, but still fit your "color palette" and sound as an artist. I'm easy to communicate with and will always be honest - we're both here to "serve the song" not ourselves.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: Jon Bellion is an incredible commercial writer, producer, and performer. I'm also influenced by the detailed lyrical styles of folk and musical theater, I just translate it to my writing in pop form. The story's in the details, that's what I write!

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: The most common work I do with clients is co-write and then produce songs. Involved in the vision of tracks from top to bottom.
