Endorse BreakPoint SoundNeeded an EP mixed and Breakpoint Sound did an absolutely excellent job with getting everything mixed to our liking and delivered our Ep within a timely manner!!! couldn't ask for a better studio to mix our EP
I've worked with Dakota on a couple different occasions and every time I've walked into the studio with him ive left happy and just all around impressed with the service and the quality of the service. When I say this man will sit for an extra hour and a half just to make it sound like exactly what you want. He will. The environment at breakpoint sound and the work provided are what keep bringing me back. Its welcoming and I always leave satisfied that my music is exactly what i wanted it to be.
Dakota at BreakPoint Sound contacted us while we were recording our EP and after a few conversations here and there he asked us if we needed and help getting our EP done ... He was a massive help during tracking and after we heard his work it was a no brainer on who we wanted to mix our record ... when he says he'll work with you until your completely satisfied he means it. He even worked with us on the pricing when our budget was running tight. We will definitely be working with him on our next project.
Awesome. The mix was the way we wanted it and the sound quality was great. Thanks for such an awesome job.
Interview with BreakPoint Sound
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Why not both? get the best of both worlds the flexibility of digital with the warmth and and character of analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That they will leave with a mix that they love and I'll keep working with them until they are 100% satisfied.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is their budget, the Tempo and key for each track and what the want the song, Ep, or album to sound like. Anything else varies project to project.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out as a drummer and bassist in a few bands and really got into recording and mixing that way. I've been working for other people in my own home studio and in professional studios since 2014 and in 2017 I started focusing my skills towards mixing and mastering.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: You get out what you put in, no amount of processing can make a bad recording sound good.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and Metal but mostly metal, stuff on the lines of Memphis May Fire, Erra, Lamb Of God, and Periphery
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually I start by setting up all of my routing and I have a few plug-ins I use on every single mix. I start building the song up with drums and bass then guitar, vocals and lastly any sound FX or any other instruments in the song with no processing just getting levels and balancing the basis of the mix, after that I work on fine tuning with Eq and compression and once I've got a solid sound I figure out any effects like reverb any special panning tricks and that sort of thing. the last step before I send the first mix to the client is testing, I listen to it on my phone, laptop bluetooth speakers, in the car, ear buds, just to make sure it sounds good everywhere and I make any tweaks i feel are necessary and sent it to the client for any revisions they have.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: It's a long list but to list just a few I'd have to go with Brian Hood, Nolly Getgood, and Chris Lord-Alge.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: These days I spend most of my time editing and mixing songs, occasionally I'll end up mastering the tracks as well. I also do recording sessions from time to time I work at a local studio where I can track guitars, bass, vocals and that kind of thing, but I do have to rent out a separate studio for drum tracking. Luckily for myself and the artists I work with there are some great studios available locally that have solid drum rooms.
