Interview with JC Almeida
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is a viral YouTube tribute where I performed multiple vocal styles in one production. It showcased my versatility, vocal control and emotional range, and helped grow my audience to over 20k subscribers.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently working on pop vocal sessions and songwriting projects while developing my own original music alongside client work.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m always happy to recommend collaborators when I feel they’re a good fit for a specific project or style.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, for flexibility, consistency and fast collaboration. I still aim for warmth and emotion rather than an overly technical sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Clear communication, professionalism, and vocals or lyrics that genuinely elevate your song. I don’t rush work, and I care about the final result.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Helping a song come to life and hearing how vocals or lyrics can completely transform a track’s impact and emotion.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you match a specific style or reference?” Yes — as long as it’s used as inspiration rather than imitation.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That recording vocals or writing lyrics is quick and effortless. Great vocals and lyrics take intention, emotion and multiple refinements to truly serve the song.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the vision for the song? Do you have reference tracks? What’s the deadline? Are you looking for a specific vocal style or emotion?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be clear about your vision and references, but stay open to creative input. The best results come from collaboration and trust rather than over-directing every detail.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My voice, a condenser microphone, an audio interface, studio headphones, and MacBook Pro with Logic Pro.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been singing and performing for many years and trained at Point Blank Music School London. I’ve worked professionally as a singer and entertainer across Europe and the USA, combining live performance experience with studio work.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotional, clean and expressive. Modern pop vocals with a touch of classic influence, strong melodies, and a focus on storytelling and feel.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Bruno Mars, because of his ability to blend timeless musical influences with modern pop production while keeping vocals and performance at the centre of the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Rock, dance-pop, retro-inspired pop, and pop with 80s influences. I also enjoy projects that blend modern production with classic songwriting and strong melodies.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Emotional vocal delivery and vocal tone control. I’m especially strong at making pop vocals feel expressive, polished and authentic rather than over-processed or generic.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotional delivery, strong melodic instincts and attention to detail. I focus on making vocals feel natural, expressive and believable, while supporting the song’s story and commercial appeal.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the vision, references and direction of the song. I then record a first vocal pass or lyric draft, share it for feedback, and refine until it fully fits the track. Clear communication and revisions are always part of the process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record from a treated home studio using a professional condenser microphone, quality audio interface and studio headphones. My setup is optimised for clean, noise-free vocals and delivers high-quality, mix-ready WAV stems.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists who combine strong songwriting with iconic vocal delivery, especially Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd and Justin Timberlake. I also admire producers who balance modern pop with timeless musicality.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually work with producers and artists who need a strong lead vocal, harmonies, or help finishing lyrics. Most projects involve recording pop vocals remotely, writing or refining lyrics, and delivering clean, mix-ready stems with a fast turnaround.
