Interview with Zevv

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I’ve been doing this for 7 years. Started as a singer and instrumentalist playing guitar, drums, bass, piano got into production and engineering shortly after. Went to a private school to hone my skills and then went out and start networking and building my relationships in the industry.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Being able to really apply creativity, life outside of working as a producer or musician can be kind of straight forward and there aren’t many creative releases beside music or art.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: To ensure I achieve what I’m hired for to the best of my ability and to have the entire collaboration process be smooth.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. Can’t live without DAWS in this day and age and on the other hand having outboard gear especially for mixing can really take a song to the next level.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What their vision for the song is and what their reference songs are.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Definitely look into their portfolio but try to gauge them as a person from the first couple interactions. Finding a patient and caring individual is just as important as their skills- apathetic providers won’t give you the best they can but will just do a job

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: I like to keep things artistic, even in engineering when it’s more technical work.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: If you feel stuck, step away and listen with fresh ears another day.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My attention to detail

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: Whatever the song needs is always a good approach, every song needs something totally different

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Singers, singing is a difficult skill to master in my opinion and I personally know some extremely talented ones.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Pop, tropical house, funk, hip hop, electronic, rock

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Fixing sounds flaws in instruments and vocal recordings. Taking out harsh frequencies and ensuring a clean and crisp mix that’s balanced and ready for mastering.
