Interview with Jesper de Vroed
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I already told before about the singer/songwriter Thomas Daniel. That project is a project i'm most proud of. Just spend so many times on this track and the results are amazing!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment i'm working on a bundle of show intros for some new clients. Beside that I have a ghost production scheduled for next week and a mixdown job.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I worked with Thomas Daniel before. He was the singer/songwriter on a track of my own artists name 2 Late Mates. He did his job really well!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work in a digital studio. I have to be fair, I have a lot of respect for professional analog producers, but in my opinion will digital improve the workflow!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to gets the best results for your track. I doesn't matter how many time it takes. It's much more important to get a satisfied customer!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like to work with people. Especially people with passion for music!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "Can I get the midi files to change the melody a little bit." This will be no problem at all! My customers gets all the freedom to make changes by themselves if they like!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some people think i'm also a singer. I only produce the music. We can work on a vocal track, but I have to send you a custom offer for this because I have to order a vocal!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Examples of tracks they like to get a idea about the style.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I advice to my customers to get an idea about the style you want. It's really important to give me some examples of tracks you really like. This can be Youtube, Soundcloud links, or whatever you want. If I gets a idea about your style, I can improve my workflow much better!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A weird question, because I need power for my gear.. ;p But however, if i'm in a desert I only needs water haha.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I work for 7 years as producer now. Start with a study for cameraman, after that I realized music can be more than only a hobby. I started my own ghost production company in the Netherlands and now I rent my own studio building for this company
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I like to describe my style as 'powerful' 'good vibes' 'happy feeling'
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Actually I like to work with all artists. Every artist has his own skill, what makes it unique to work with them.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A music production costs time, take that time!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on all EDM genres, but i'm specialized in Big-room and Progressive House
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: The mixdown of a track is my strongest skill
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I get the most inspiration by some rest.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always start with writing a melody. After that i'll work on the first break and drop, when this is finished the client gets his first preview. You can tell me what you like, or what I have to change so I can work on the second preview. I will workout the whole track included intro and outro. What means, the second preview will be the whole track. You can tell me again what you like or what I have to change. If you're agree with the arrangement, I'll work on the mixdown and master. After this you will receive all the files!
