Having won a Grammy Award (mixer - Kylie Minogue) and as one half of the remix team Manhattan Clique, I've been fortunate to work with some of the biggest names in pop and dance music, delivering 100s of mixes and remixes to the world's best-known record labels. Working with your vision and ideas, I'll bring that experience to your music and songs!

My remix highlights include remixes for Katy Perry (x5), Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Moby (x4), Emeli Sandé, DJ Fresh, Ellie Goulding, Nicole Scherzinger (x2), Britney Spears, Example, Far East Movement and many more.

As Manhattan Clique, we are well known for our more electro-based work with pioneering heritage acts, including OMD, Human League, Soft Cell and The B-52's. We additionally co-wrote and produced Erasure frontman Andy Bell’s debut Electric Blue album and I had the pleasure of working with Kim Wilde on songs from her solo album "Come Out and Play".

As one half of M-3ox, our song "Beating Of My Heart" featured on the Swedish House Mafia's million-selling album "Until Now" and featured prominently in their global live show.

I have enjoyed working with some major artists in Europe, including remixing many songs for Mylene Farmer, the most successful French female artist of all time. Mylene's duet with Moby, "Slipping Away" (which we produced) spent several weeks at no.1 in the French singles chart. I also produced songs for German girlband Queensberry, including their highest charting single "Hello" (peak position no.4, 2009) and have recently worked with KHB Music (Germany) on remixes for their catalogue of artists.

I met Philip in 1999 and was impressed by his remix of a Mary J Blidge song. Phil is a talented remixer and pop producer, fun and extremely pleasant person to work with. He did some remixes for some of the artists I worked with and still collaborating with me on some projects (e.g. recordingfestival.com).

As a member of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, I have collaborated with Madness, The Kaiser Chiefs, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) to name but a few. You bring the same energy and expertise to our work together as these guys did and you really make it fun to be with in the studio.

Thank you Philip! Looking forward to the next project.

Interview with Philip Larsen

Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
I co-produced and co-wrote a song "True Colours" which was featured on a major UK TV campaign promoting diversity and equality in all its forms. It was an honour to be part of something so forward thinking.
Analog or digital and why?
Both. Analog for synths and as of recently, digital for quality of plug-ins, reverbs and ease of recall of mixes.
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
I will get it right for you.
What do you like most about your job?
Making music in all its forms, satisfied customers and hearing tracks I have worked on, on the radio.
What questions do you ask prospective clients?
Having heard the original piece of music, I ask them what they are listening to at the moment and depending on response, would suggest some ideas for their mix/remix/production. That way, we start off in the right place.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
My laptop (with Logic), Genelecs, weighted USB keyboard, Juno-60 and a solar power generator.
Which artist would you like to work with and why?
Daft Punk. My inspiration musically & professionally.
Can you share one music production tip?
Just get the best possible recording of whatever it is being played/sung and the rest falls into place much easier.
What's your strongest skill?
A musical approach to mixing and remixing. Plus having been fortunate to work on so many mixes, a quick turnaround!
What do you bring to a song?
I try to be as faithful to the original as possible, whilst keeping an eye on what will work commercially.
Tell us about your studio setup.
A collection of gear started by my father in the 70s, being brought right up to date with my laptop and various mixing desks along the way. I wouldn't go without my Genelec speakers, on which I have mixed everything in the last 15 years and trust implicitly.
What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
I grew up as a fan of Jeff Lynne and Jean-Michel Jarre was my neighbour. After that, 80s electronic music in all its forms became my inspiration (Kraftwerk, Human League, Vince Clarke) before the 90s kicked in and I threw myself into creating music for the clubs, in many forms. Time spent in Berlin with DJ producers such as Sven Vath and Paul van Dyk gave me the kick to really go for it myself.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
Typically, my role falls between mixing and remixing. Usually clients come to me with well-formed ideas, that need a little push over the line. I have a lot of analogue gear and like to try and incorporate a sound or two from my studio in each mix. Only if it improves the original of course!
