Interview with Exalt Recording
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: There are TONS of producers, musicians, and producers who are good enough to work with you in terms of skill level. Don't worry so much about that--worry about the sound they'll impart to your music due to their own taste. Don't find a 'good' producer, find the 'right' producer. (i.e. don't hire me if you want your song to sound light, fluffy, bright, and happy!)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is emphasizing the artist's strengths and making provision for any weaknesses in a gentle and affirming way. I make recording un-assuming and relaxed.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I've never had a dissatisfied client, and I don't plan on changing that!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Ambient, dark, broody, strange, heavy, aggressive, different.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring rhythmic, melodic, textural, and spacial ideas that are abnormal, moody and interesting. If you want something that's different and your music is on the darker end of things, you're in the right spot!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: What differentiates my work process is my effort to fully "in the artist's head," so that we're executing their exact dream and goals. This takes extra time and conversation, but always delivers.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most clients are coming to me because they want the specific ambient, dark, moody sounds I can provide. So they're trusting me to guide their whole song or album start to finish. If I'm not doing everything, the most likely single services I'm being hired for are percussion or producing.
