Juhan Ongbrian on SoundBetter

I'm specialized in multi-track mixing and audio editing - mainly in Pop, R&B, Jazz, Lo-Fi, and Hip-Hop music genres. Aside from producing and releasing my own music, I work with a variety of artists locally and internationally - assisting them in finding the right directions and sounds for their projects.

Juhan was great to work with. I really enjoyed mixing the track and communication was clear and consistent. The instructions and directions were super clear and that allowed me the freedom to really get creative. I would definitely work with Juhan again

A pleasure to work with Juhan on a debut instrumental jazz - from a mix that was nailed, just needing just the right touch and respecting its dynamic range. Thank you Juhan!

Juhan is an amazing mixing engineer who is really easy to work with.. He is a true artist at heart and he brings his artistic vision to the table even when he is engineering! I highly recommend this guy to anyone whose primary concern is to create ART!!

I've worked on several songs with Juhan. He was the recording and mixing engineer on them and honestly did a phenomenal job in my opinion. He went above and beyond to make sure he captured my vision as an artist while putting out an excellent product. I was very satisfied with the experience and plan to work with Juhan again. If you're considering working with Juhan, I highly recommend it.

I would always Joke and tell Juhan that he might be OCD because of the amount of time he would invest into every little detail of a song or project we work on just to get the best outcome. Juhan is definitely competent and knows his stuff. Very enthusiastic and just a great person to work with. I’ve worked on so many projects with him because he is that good. I highly recommend home to anyone for sure.

Interview with Juhan Ongbrian

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I was academically and professionally trained in Audio Production and Engineering for about 5 years, and I used to run my own recording studio, Pienix Studio, for about 4 years in Los Angeles, California. I also produce and release my own music while working with other artists.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Besides mixing for other artists, I’m currently working on my own projects - Jazz Lo-Fi Instrumentals - releasing under my name “Juhan Ongbrian”. I am also producing a few projects in collaboration with other artists.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: I usually work on Pop / R&B (Vocal driven songs) and Jazz / Lo-Fi (Instrumentals) type of music.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: I’m specialized in audio editing, vocal production, and multi-track mixing. I would say my strongest skill is in mixing various genres of music.

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  10. A: I worked with Adam Dempsey previously on SoundBetter. Adam is a tremendous and skillful Mastering Engineer - he worked on two of my songs and I love how the final masters are sounding. Definitely check him out.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Both. Because why not.. Digital has that clarity and precision that analog is lacking, whereas Analog has that natural warmth and “mojo” that digital is missing.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: I always start by listening demo / rough mix that the client provided - it’s good to capture the intended “vibes” and “feelings” that the client is aiming for. Next, I would get more technical on the gain staging - making sure that none of the tracks is too loud or too soft - also to check if all the sounds are complete. Lastly, would be the mixing stage - spending the time to process each sound(s) and making sure that the overall mix is cohesive.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I’m currently working at my home studio. It’s acoustically treated and sounding great with my setup. I have Focal Shape 65 as my main monitors, Universal Audio Apollo for interface, Yamaha subwoofers, and various software plugins. You can check out my equipment list and picture to learn more.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: I actually took a workshop training course with Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, KISS) in 2015 for about a week - learning his engineering methods and production techniques. I would say I’m inspired by him.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I’m mostly involved in audio editing, vocal production, and mixing for my clients.
