Interview with Steklo
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like that you never stop exporting your emotions into what people can listen to.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask them to write about themselves as an artist and their plans.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't forget to ask how much it would cost :)
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Mac, Soundcard, Microphone, Soft, Monitors, Earphones, Vocal Room - all I need to make great records!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chester Bennington's voice will always stay in my heart. It inspires me to sing over and over again. I also love to hear what SIA does. I really like her melodies that are made specifically for singing. I am so grateful to these artists for giving us such a great experience!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I work on branding and an online store with my acapellas and vocal packs
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "Hey man, will you sing for my new track? It's a dope shit!" I never answer to the messages like that actually.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I tried to record a song using only vocal samples. That was a big mistake.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Guitar, Microphone, Headphones, Laptop, Audio card
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I did small research between my listeners and came to an artist called Alan Walker. I think I could make some good vibes with him. Guess he likes making sad music, so I do.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When you do final recordings - don't forget to put a non-fake emotion into them. It will live forever then.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: EDM, Dubstep, Drum & Bass, House, Future Bass, Hardstyle, Techno, Deep House, Trance, etc.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: A wide-ranged and powerful voice is my strongest skill. It gives emotions that producers sometimes look for to be part of their songs.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to bring an emotional storyline that will make the song come alive.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I do a vocal line melody on chords that I have first. Then I try to put random words on it and try to reach out to the true feeling of the melody and grooves. Then I compose lyrics that are based on that feeling and edit the melody to fit the words. When the rough demo is sung - I start recording and adding some extra backing vocals and harmonies to make the line sound more dynamic and emotionally open.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I enjoy creating vocals and writing lyrics. For me - these things are the true feeling of the music. I love to combine lyrics with grooves and make some killer hooks out of them. One of the most magical things about vocals - is when you record your emotions so they stay alive in tunes.
