Your music, my lyrics.

Apollo Hyder on SoundBetter

I write lyrics that tell stories, evoke emotions, inspire imagination, portray personas. Sometimes ironic, sometimes melancholic. Often thought-provoking and surprising. Something for both the heart and the mind.

Literature, travel, encounters with humans and animals alike, walks in the woods and on mountains, a career in business and education, the experience of martial law, detention by a violent militia and much more have been providing me with material for my songs.

There are many waiting to be written. They lurk in shadowy corners, wait in fields of freshly cut grass, speak to me in voices from another table in a restaurant.

Terms of service:
If you are a music composer, you send me your music (a recorded demo or worktape, plus ideally a lead sheet as well as further information that help me fully appreciate your composition and arrangement) and I write lyrics to the song. - Maybe you need lyrics to music that has not yet been written? Let's talk.

At times I will also write the topline (i.e. vocal melody), sometimes not. We will need to find out in the course of our collaboration. When I write the topline, I can record scratch vocals which will have to be recorded again by a good vocalist.

As I will be writing the lyrics (and maybe the topline), I will be coming in as a full partner on the song (i.e., 50% of the credit). If our song gets cut by an artist, we will have to sign a (one-song) co-publishing deal for that song with a publishing company.

By working with me, you agree to these conditions, or to alternative conditions that we agree upon in writing.

Another great project from Waseem, once again very easy to work with and a unique original talent, inspired by great writers and players his songs take you away on a journey through time and space. A tonic in these troubled times.
Thank you Waseem, a real pleasure working with you.

Working with Waseem was an absolute pleasure. It is great to work with someone who communicates well exactly what they want and able to supply all the files needed to get the job done easily. Great communication and a talented song writer with a strong character and content to his work. I would certainly recommend working with Waseem if you are fortunate enough to be asked.

It was truly a joy and a pleasure working with Waseem on this project! A true blues man in every regard. Loved, loved, loved this song. He's speaking a language that few musicians know how to speak these days. Truly a blessing to work with. Highly, highly recommended!!!

Interview with Apollo Hyder

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: There always are multiple lyrical and musical ideas that I play around with.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both have their merits and attraction.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: When I was a small boy, I spent hours on the balcony watching what was going on down in the street. As soon as I’d had my fill, I’d rush to my mother and tell her about it.
“That sounds interesting,” she would say, “would you like to write it down?” So I did, often in verse and rhyme. My first song lyrics came to being, many more have since then. Around the age of twelve or thirteen I started hearing strange noises from the flat next door in the building where we lived at the lake of Zurich. I did not understand the nature of these sounds until a few years later when the harbingers of my own virility made themselves known to me. But the Sultans of Swing spinning hot on the turntable just like Peter and Maria night after night in their bedroom got me in to song writing. During the summer break from school that same year I worked at the local chocolate factory so I could buy a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. Still today it is the usual suspect in my hands when I start writing a new song.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Depth. Wit. Intelligence. Emotion. Humour. Sometimes elegance. Surprise.
