Interview with Björn Zetterström
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure to have a dialog of exactly what it is the you want, and also make sure to have some reference tracks in mind.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied music production at university in Sweden, and then later at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. From mixing a lot of my own demos as a aspiring songwriter and producer, to mixing and producing local talent. Over 10 years of experience.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, my Apollo x6, a pair of good headphones, my guitar and a good mic.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My roots are in heavy metal and rock. but I also have a love for EDM and funk. Musically I'm all over the place...
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Logic Pro X with a Apollo x6 interface and monitors from focal. I also have a short list of analog "outboards". I like to stay in the box as much as possible.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and mastering demos, EPs, singles or full albums. Live mixing at venues. Producing rock, pop, country, EDM, heavy mettal etc... among other for TV-commercials.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I am 90% digital, and the reason is simply put: Total recall! This way I can offer unlimited revisions, and easily pick up from where we left off.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Actually, the projekt I am especially proud of is kind of a pet projekt I have together with my local rockbar. We recently started to live record the bands playing live at the bar and post the audio on YouTube, with the intent to help and promote the bands and artists. We use a Soundcraft Ui24 on stage, and with the Ui24 we can live record the bands as a multitrack. I then bring the files to my studio and do a new mix & master. It's usually a rough and raw feel... but so much fun! Feel free to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIIzSGl3Jx_1YRq9VLQ-77Q/videos
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will give it my all to reach our goal that we set together, and deliver a high quality product!
