Professional mixer with credits on Disney, Hollywood Records, Prescription, 3V, Freeform, Showtime and several Spotify New Music Friday releases. I focus heavily on how trends in music are constantly changing so I can provide my clients with mixes that are sonically timeless
I strive to bring the highest quality to each and every client I work with whether it's as high profile as Disney, or someone who is putting out music for the very first time.
If you're looking for a "signature sound", I'm not your guy. I don't slap "my sound" on songs - each project is different and I want to highlight what makes yours special. My goal is to make the song what it wants to be, and to give you a product that everyone involved is ecstatic about!
You only get to release a song once. Make sure you choose someone who will help make your ideas become reality.
Send me a message so we can talk about your project and how we can take your song to the highest level!

he's a mad genius.. love him. will be coming back
JJ is so personable, professional, and reliable. I've worked with impersonal engineers who are talented but ultimately don't care about a project. NOT the case with JJ. He takes a genuine interest in his collaborators, is receptive to notes, will happily offer his own valuable input on creative decisions, and really cares about delivering a quality finished product that aligns with our goals. Super reliable communicator and fast turnaround. Such a pleasure to work with. No hesitation in recommending him!
JJ Catalyst is the perfect combination of personality and professionalism. As an artist of multiple touring bands and having the pleasure of using him for my last four releases I don’t see myself going to anyone else when it comes to mixing our music. If you’re looking for someone to take your art and turn it into a masterpiece beyond expectations, JJ is your man.
I am a producer/multi-instrumentalist/writer and have been working with JJ for 5+ years. I recommend every artist I work with to him that is looking for the best quality mix and master. Not only did he exceed my expectations but he also made the process fun, timely and affordable. Shows a sincere interest in the project and lends his support/guidance to make sure the artist is happy. Looking forward to working on the next project and many more!
I’ve been working with JJ for over four years now with my various bands and solo project. Always makes the environment great for productivity and good vibes. I always get so stoked when he sends me the first mix back, I’m instantly like “that’s it”! My favorite in the game, we have gotten over 2 million streams working together. My loyalty is always going to be with JJ! I would recommend JJ to everyone because he is truly one of the bests at his craft and style.
I am a solo artist who has been working with JJ for nearly 3 years now. He has helped craft the tone I want for my music and knows how to incorporate the artists personality into the mix. He is also a tremendous mentor and coach to younger producers/engineers in the industry and setting them up with the greatest amount of success. I highly recommend working with JJ for future projects and future success!
Interview with JJ Catalyst
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Serban Ghenea and Josh Gudwin.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Whichever one inspires you the most and fits your creative style! I do still think it's important to capture performances at the highest quality - through nice analog equipment, but at the end of the day, whatever enables you to create is what I feel is best.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I get to work on incredible music every single day!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: "Oh we'll just fix it in the mix." - this is the WORST misconception. I collaborate heavily with producers and artists on projects that I mix, and I urge them to "fix" any problems they have before it gets to me. If you hand off something that needs to be fixed, that takes away from being able to just take what's there and make it better. If you fix every problem you have at the production stage and you are completely happy with it before it even goes off to mixing, you will be EXTREMELY happy with what you get back since all the mixer has to focus on is being creative and giving everything a space. Try it - you'll love the results!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I don't think I have a specific style...like I mentioned in my bio my "style" is allowing the song to be what it wants to be. I don't want to put my "stamp" on it, I want people to just enjoy the music. I'm not going to make the drums knock if the song doesn't call for it, because then they just distract from the song. I want to be as invisible as possible on the project.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd LOVE to work with The Weeknd or Ariana Grande. I'm a huge fan of both of their music and I think because of that I'd do a really great job at mixing the song from a fan's perspective.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't add things just because you think you're supposed to have a complex track. Add or subtract things with intention. Make sure you're doing your song justice and don't overcomplicate things.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I typically work on Pop music, but I come from a metal/hardcore background! So every once in a while I do still work on stuff that's a little heavier than what people usually come to me for - but I love the switch up!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Understanding what the song wants, and how to bring out/match the emotion in the mix.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: There's really no cookie cutter way of doing things. I start with whatever the song makes me feel I should start with and go from there.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a been through so many different setups trying to hone in on what is most effective for my workflow, and I have finally found something I am extremely happy with! I mix entirely in the box so that I can keep turnaround times as quick as possible, and revisions can be done even quicker and precisely. That said, my chain is simple! I have a Lynx Hilo for conversion, into a Grace M905 monitor controller, into a pair of PMC two two.6 and a JL Fathom 112 sub. It's extremely clean, accurate, and allows me to mix without worrying about how it's going to translate. What I hear coming out of the speakers is what I'm going to hear everywhere else!
