Gabe Guevara on SoundBetter

My name is Gabe Guevara and I'm from Tyler, Tx. I operate at the intersection of rhythm and technology. By bringing a "performer’s ear" to the control room, I ensure every project is not just technically flawless, but musically compelling.

With years of experience as a professional drummer and audio engineer, I provide freelance audio services that turn raw ideas into professional productions. I don't just record audio; I capture energy.

Core Services

Post-Production Excellence: Beyond the initial record, I provide meticulous audio editing, vocal tuning, drum alignment, and sonic restoration to ensure a polished, radio-ready finish.

End-to-End Production: Complete management of the recording process, from initial scratch tracks and arrangement to final master delivery.

Interview with Gabe Guevara

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Jb and the Moonshine bands albums. These albums paved the road for me and opened my eyes to see that if you put your heart in to something, follow your gut, and stay humble and honest... Great things will happen.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Some Pop tracks for an artist over seas.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: The homie Josh Gannett!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both are great, they have their pros and cons... They are all tools. You use them just like a carpenter would use a hammer. I use both.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to treat every project with the same level of professional intensity and sonic detail that I would bring to my own recordings. I guarantee a polished, radio-ready sound that preserves the authentic 'vibe' of your performance while ensuring the technical foundation—like phase alignment and mix headroom—is flawless. Ultimately, I am not finished until we have a final product that you are proud to share and that truly represents your vision as an artist.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That I am doing what I absolutely love for a living.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: My career began behind the drum kit, where I spent years developing a deep understanding of rhythm and live performance before transitioning into the technical world of audio engineering. I have been working in the music industry for over a decade, evolving from a session player into a professional recording engineer and mixer. This journey has allowed me to combine my rhythmic intuition with a high-level mastery of studio production, giving me a unique 'musician-first' approach to every project I engineer.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Know your songs as well as the tempo and send it to me then, let's make a hit record.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: MacBook Pro, Antelope Audio Zenith 2 Audio Interface, Roland Midi Drumpad, my Taylor Acoustic, bass guitar, a Shure sm57,

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Unique. I use technical aspects of all genres and marry them into one cohesive track that is YOUR masterpiece.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: One essential tip is to prioritize phase coherency across your drum and instrument tracks before reaching for any EQ or compression. Ensuring that every microphone is working together rather than fighting itself creates a natural weight and clarity that you simply can't manufacture with plugins later. When your foundation is solid and perfectly aligned, the rest of the mix practically falls into place with much less effort.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Mainly Country and Rock and Roll but do enjoy doing Pop as well!

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I approach every song with the dual perspective of a professional musician and a recording engineer, ensuring that the rhythmic foundation is as sonically polished as it is musically compelling. My focus emphasizes clarity, punch, and emotional impact, particularly within all genres. Ultimately, I provide a collaborative environment where technical expertise meets a deep respect for the artist's original vision, resulting in a professional, high-energy final product.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: Typically, the artist sends me scratch tracks and I lay down drums (and other instruments if necessary as I have in house studio musicians second to none on hand) and I produce, and mix the song. I will then send it back to the artist and they will lay down vocal tracks, send 3 takes of those back to me and I mix and master the track!

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Musicians that inspire me are, Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Navarro, Keith Whitley, George Strait, Roger Waters, Tom Petty, Miles Davis, Ryan Adams, Don Henley and many more. Music Production Pros that inspire me are Rick Rubin, Jaycen Joshua, Glyn Johns, and Dave Pensado.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: Mixing and Mastering, Post Production, and Acoustic Drum Tracks.

  37. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  38. A: What is the time frame? Full production or demos? Do you need studio musicians? How many songs?

  39. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  40. A: Dave Pensado, we are similar in many ways I think and I honestly believe we would hit it off and make a hit record most importantly, having fun doing it.

  41. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  42. A: Mixing, Post Production and Drum Tracking.
