Stereo Lunch on SoundBetter

Stereo Lunch was created to offer professional remote mixing and mastering. Head engineer and producer Chris Hughes has a decade of experience and has mixed artists from all over the world. He is the mixer of choice for legendary producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Blondie).

Chris Hughes is an audio engineer based in Los Angeles. His passion in the art and science of music has been present ever since he was very young and growing up in Colorado. Chris moved to California in his late teens and studied music theory in Santa Barbara with emphasis on songwriting. That is also where he landed his first studio internship at the legendary Santa Barbara Sound Design. He received a Bachelor's of Applied Science in Sound Arts from Ex'pression College for Digital Arts and started a successful freelance audio career. Over the years he has helped numerous bands create and release their music. Chris has worked in recording sessions with Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, John Lennon), Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis) and Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Blondie). He also assisted mastering engineer Piper Payne on the team of Neato Mastering (Shannon and the Clams, Madam Gahndi). In 2020 Chris was invited to join the Recording Academy and a Grammy voting member.

I recently recorded keyboards at a session where Chris was the engineer; he's a FANTASTIC engineer with an incredible ear! The man really knows his mic placements and got the piano sounding fantastic. Super knowledgeable, super professional, and super personable. He also has a wonderful energy, which is so important when it comes to running a productive session that everyone feels great about. I absolutely recommend working with him.

Working with Chris has been a great experience. This is the third project that we've worked on together in a remote setting and it has been a pleasure each and every time. The workflow is always efficient and he is able to deliver amazing results in several different genres.

Chris is a fantastic engineer to work with. We (In Lights) worked with Chris for 3 years, he recorded and mixed our EP and album. He is patient, easy to communicate with, and most important - loves what he does and works with all his heart. He delivers recordings that even exceed our expectation. With Chris's help, our ablum is voted as top 50 post-rock albums of 2017.

Chris is such a pleasure to work with. I gave him a super tight timeline to work with for my 14 track album and he not only stuck to this timeline but did so in a proficient, friendly and open manner. He took artistic direction generously, welcoming suggestions from my co-producer and I and applying them artfully. Highly recommended!

A true professional. Chris Hughes assisted in the sessions for Christopher Youmans & The Sound Agency's debut EP, 'Make Things Right'. Chris helped track a 6-piece horn section, the UC Berkeley string orchestra, drums, vocals, and other important programming. A pleasure to work with He is calm, supportive, efficient, communicative, and intelligent!

Chris is FANTASTIC! He's all one could hope for in an engineer and mixer! His knowledge is vast, comprehensive, and actively engaged, but what's even better is his innate sense of cool. My band and I recorded a couple of songs with him, and I must say they are easily the best recordings I've ever gotten of my songs! I'm absolutely THRILLED!

Chris is a super cool, relaxed and easy to work with. He did STANDOFF first demo CD. It has a great sound and mix. He's patient and is willing to go extra miles to get the recording to sound right and professional. STANDOFF will be back to record with Chris in the near future. Strongly recommend Chris for any recording projects.

We are The Involuntary Jerks. We had thought that we were destined to languish in obscurity and irrelevance, bound, as we were, to 50 gigs of masters which were not suitable for human consumption. Out of nowhere, we were handed Chris' card. In no time at all, he brought the full force of our majesty and brilliance to bear. Dude is a Jedi.

Vivifyd got to experience Chris Hughes talent!! We did our first EP with him and we are getting great reviews and feedback on how great it sounds. He is very meticulous, which is what you want. He works very efficiently and is very easy to work with. Our friends, Standoff, also got to use him and was very pleased with their Demo. Thanks again!!
