Interview with Audioactive
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Memkash is a trance project we did the mastering for. We've got a lot of positive feedback for the work. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4GjDUxsrp89TWQAGkT3PMb
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: We are working on a new uplifting trance album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Menef is a good sound engineer.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Audiactive uses digital mastering for better precision in EDM music. Nowadays the difference between software and hardware solutions are almost eliminated, and even the software solutions are getting better than its hardware friends.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Audiactive promise the mixes sound better!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: High complexity of work and the satisfying result of it.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that mastering making music better. It does sound better, but not music itself.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure audio engineer is willing to communicate and care about what you think.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Sound interface, microphone, monitor headphones, laptop and power generator working on water!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: The whole music journey started with piano classes and bass guitar classes. Then EDM caught our mind and we are working on electronic music since 2001 and can't stop doing this.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Audioactive is in between progressive and uplifting trance, focusing on emotions and melodies, aggressive bass and tight drum section.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's often we can hear "use your ears" to make a better sounding. It's of course always the case and actually rude and useless advice. We would recommend thinking about stories and emotions the music wants to communicate, it's very important in getting sound right! Getting high-quality drums, synths/samples, and precise EQ is also very important. As a producer, you don't necessarily need studio monitors and can use headphones, Audioactive will take care of the rest!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: We work on House and Trance music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: It is important to catch the artist strengths and amplify it. We look for the story and emotions in the music to get the result consistent and memorable.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The process is developed to create not just sound better music but include artist vision and highlight the artistic talent. 1. We ask to fill the quick brief to catch the mood and qualities artists is looking for 2. Then we can have a conversation about details and forming time-frame 3. Audiactive prepares 2 versions and artist gives feedback 4. Audiactive makes 2 revisions on any version selected
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's a home studio setup including KRK Classic 5 monitors on stands connected to M-Audio Interface. The monitors are connected with balanced cables, placed and tuned to sound neutral as much as possible.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: We often listen to various producers and keep our ears trained by that.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mastering and mixing
