Interview with AudioKemestry

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The full length LP "Sique La Movida" by Equipto & Michael Marhshall. There were a number of different technical challenges to deal with (e.g. lots of dialog that needed RX, tracks done with different producers and different studioes, etc.) and they also were going on tour so they need instrumental versions and show version for all songs. It was a big project but it turned out amazing.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Mastering a reggae album.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Hybrid. Analog can do things to the sound that digital just cannot replicate. Digital has a flexibility that analog just cannot compete with. We live in both worlds.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I'm not happy until you are happy.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Helping people realize their dreams in a tangible format.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That mastering can magically fix every issue and make everything sound better. Actually, the quality of the mix is the limiting factor that determines how far we can take things at the mastering stage.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Communication is key

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Manley Massive Passive, IGS Tubecore, Avalon 747, Neve MBP, Dangerous BAX EQ

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: Pablo Infinity (aka P. Whaley) is a true scientist of sound. With 20 years of experience as an independent recording artist/producer (Bored Stiff, SF), as well as degrees in math and biomedical engineering (therapeutic ultrasound), he brings a unique blend of creative and technical skills. He has spent the last 10 years sharpening his skills as mastering engineer and building up his studio, which combines top of the line digital signal processing tools and boutique analog equipment. Although he embraces the benefits and workflow of digital technology, Pablo Infinity believes that what's missing from much of today's digital landscape is the analog soul, provided by analogue gear with real tubes and transformers.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Less is more.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Independent hip-hop

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Clients will truly appreciate our attention to detail, technical and creative wizardry, and commitment to delivering masters that are ready for the world.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I'm inspired by fearless creators and those with the same passion for sound as myself.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Mastering is our primary type of work. Mixing is secondary.
