Interview with World Premiere EG
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Apart of my day mixing & mastering work I'm partially working on a friend's project, some kind of Latin Hip Hop Ep. My role is as mixing & mastering engineer and also I'm taking part as executive producer, guiding all the people involved in the project to reach a great commercial release.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a personal studio with a great acoustic environment. I monitor on Amphion Two15 powered by Wyred4Sound amps and ATC SCM50ASL Pro through Lynx converters and with the additional help of Sonarworks Reference V3 for an extra room correction. I work on a mainly focused digital system with the latest native and DSP softwares.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I have lived in both worlds and now I prefer digital because it can reach the same quality as analogue systems but its versatility is far superior. Of course I will use whatever I need for any music project.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My knowledge, Mac Pro, Pro Tools, ATC speakers and my coffee machine!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: In some great music!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm a newbie here, but I think some of my colleages could be around here. I will try it later.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: We will get it!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: My job is my passion and what I do for a living, so everything!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: - Online mixing & mastering … really? And my answer is: Yes! Thanks to the digital age, it is possible! I will keep you posted every step of the way as if you were my next door neighbour.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I don't know if it is a misconception, but sometimes I try to reach so much into my clients, I love to treat them as they were my friends or family. Of course this is to get the best relationship with them.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask them about what are in their minds about their project. I try to understand what they think as deep as possible to be able to bring it sonically to them.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Are you ready to get a hit song? :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have started in the music production around 2000 and mainly focused in mixing & mastering around 2005.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Never give up!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with everyone who makes good music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's all about gain staging and firstly balancing the mix, after that and if you have the enough skills, everything flows.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I focus mainly on Hip Hop/Rap, Urban (pop, urban-pop, R'n'B and derivatives) and electronic music (Techno, EDM, House, Trap and derivatives).
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I love what I do and, if I have decided to work with you it means that I also love what you do ... It is imposible to stop us from releasing a hit project! :)
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: When you are hiring me you are paying for my ears, my experience and my ability to deliver a great mix. I help you realizing your vision of the song while still providing a fresh new perspective. Of course it will always be me and not an intern nor an assistant.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I take care of every task in the mixing & mastering process. From fixing noisy sources, vocal tuning, creating additional versions (radio, tv, instrumental, etc) and physical or digital masters (DDP, CD Red book, MFiT, etc). This way the artist only needs to rent a studio for the exact recording time process or even if he has a personal recording system he can avoid spent money on it.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I get inspired by every music, artist or engineer which art can reach into my heart and contribute to me in a positive and creational way.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mix & master music projects, from independent artist to major labels. What I do is about understanding the artist mind and be able to transform a rough idea into an industry quality mix.
