Hi! I am Alex, a full-time studio drummer and educator, who´s passion is to play and record music. I´ve recorded hundreds of tracks for artists around the world throughout my career, and I´m always looking forward to meeting new musicians! I have my own recording studio, so feel free to contact me anytime so we can start discussing our project!

Interview with Alex Ramos
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on a multi-band project for a recording studio. I performed drums on a cover that we tracked in order to showcase the studio´s potential.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Always striving to improve the quality of my product
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Because besides being alot more price friendly, we´ve come a long way in digital tech.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My pledge is always that I will use my full potential for each and everysong, regardless of any aspect. And that their satisfaction is my priority.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I get to be a part of some really amazing art. Music is what we use to describe feeling that cannot be put unto words.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: To be honest I don´t think there is a single question that I can pinpoint as being asked multiple times. Everyone is diferent - but interaction is always friendly and professional.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That music is a hobbie, and not a job.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Most common question has to be: "Can I add my own twists, turns and ideas when I track the song?"
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The better and more detailed your guitar/fullband guide track sounds, the more you will inspire the musician you are hiring.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Drumsticks, practice pad, doublepedal, metronome and a complete hi-hat stand.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Over the past 12 years, I´ve recorded hundreds of songs and played a myriad of live shows. Self taught in the beginning, started private lessons with one of the best drummers in the country, and a passage through Berklee online where I completed a "Rock Music" specialization course with Rod Morgenstein, graded A+. Most of my professional time is spent between local sessions, online recording sessions, shows and teaching drums.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I like to think I have a nice balanced blend of skills. Some speed, alot of dynamics and a good ear for music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Devin Townsend. He is extremely creative and will not set boundaries to his art.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Start with the source. Spend more time in making things sound good in tracking, rather than wasting more time in post-prod.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Almost every genre of metal and rock, though I won´t shy away from playing modern Pop music
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Again, I must say my strength lies on writing drum parts and creating amazing songs with other musicians. I also take instructions very well, as I respect the artist´s final word about any aspect that relates to his music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My strength in drums is definitively songwritting. I can create details that really highlight important parts of the song but I also know when to bring the rhythm a notch down so that there is space for other instruments to come through and let the song breathe.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically there is a discussion with the other musicians about the song and their general expectation of the drum parts, just so we can align our mindsets. On the recording process I like to try ALOT of ideas to see what best fits each part. From there, an audible is delivered so that we can start revising.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I´m currently playing a Pearl Decade maple "22, "10, "12, "16, Mapex black panther limited edition snare or Tama SLP steel snare (according to the job), Czarcie Kopyto double pedals and a selection of Zildjian and Sabian cymbals. I´m running Shure, Audix and Lewitt mics on a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 through Reaper.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Sebastian Lanser, Matt Gartksa, Nolly
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I write, perform and record drums.
