Interview with CoreyDreamz
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: If they can revise the work, and how many times can they do it. I offer 2 revisions because I think clients should leave with a song they truly believe in. After 2 revisions there will be additional cost to revise but will be based off the work it entails. Needless to say, I follow the initial guidelines and work from there, I won't start the writing process over if the client changes their mind/idea about the song.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Whats Up by CoreyDreamz, since its release in April it has been on the Top 150 Global Radio Charts consecutively since the first week. I was the singer/songwriter on the song.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on my new album, getting some things together for my new sponsor Converse and editing a few music videos.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, there is so many things you can do digitally it's unreal and you can make some really cool things up along the way.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise that every song will have a 100% satisfaction rate and will be marketable.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love being creative and helping others with their music.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some clients ask if I can mix/master their song. Even though I know how to do those things I tend to recommend them to someone else because I know it isn't a strong suit of mine and I want everyone to get the best.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always ask what artist(s) they can be compared to and if they have any topic ideas or if they want me to go with what I feel.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please be as honest and upfront with me as possible, from our initial conversation to the last feedback. I want to make sure each client is 100% satisfied with what they are paying for so please be honest.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, headphones, Scarlett interface, external hard drive and my Neumann TLM 102 microphone.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been songwriting for 10 years and a musician for 5 years (signed for 4). I do both now because I love being a musician but I also love songwriting because I want to help people make their visions come true.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Commercial, I try to write songs that could be placed on radio, tv, etc.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Bruno Mars, the guy has mad talent and he's a great performer. I also love his sounds and how his voice has great range.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't be afraid to explore different sounds.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring creativity, simplicity, authenticity and an all around different sound than what is out nowadays.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always try to have the client be really honest and sure about what they want. Once that's ready, I go through my writing process. Once I have written the song and recorded it, so they can get a better feel for it, I send it off to the client to see if they like it. If there are a few things that they would like changed I make the correct changes. I like to make sure each client is completely 100% satisfied with their project.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Prince, Trey Songz just to name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Although new to SoundBetter, I've been writing songs for clients in the industry for years.
