Hola! I am Tanya Nielsen, latin pop singer/songwriter and music producer from Montreal. I have over 15 years experience writing and producing music.
My vocals styles are mainly mainstream pop, latin pop, pop rock and jazz.

Of Chilean descent being fluent in both Spanish and English, singing and making and writing music has always been my passion from as long as I can remember.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Oh, so many here! Growing up in a Spanish environment and culture, I’ve been immersed in so many genres and inspired by many musicians and producers - latin and popular. Music Producer : Marcella "Ms. Lagos" Araica 100%!! Vocalist : My first obsession was Elizabeth Fraser's voice. She is the vocalist and songwriter of the Cocteau Twins Mostly known for her vocals on Massive Attack's track "Teardrop". I'm also very inspired by Tainy and The Weeknd for their music productions. Artists like Maluma, Karol G, J Balvin and Shakira are constantly playing on my playlists. !Viva Latino! and Afro Ritmo on Spotify are my go-tos for inspiration. Check it out!
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I co-wrote and co-produced and performed a song about Terry Fox. It received national media attention playing on CBC.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Vocals, Background Vocals, Songwriting (topline), vocal production and vocal mixing.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: So hard to narrow to one! SIA, Pedro Capó, Luis Fonsi. I admire SIA's sense of empowerment in her songs through the lyrics and vocal melodies. I would love love love to either co-write or collaborate vocally on a track with her.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital! It's the way of today and the future. I love however how analog is more tangible, playful and rich sounding! I am very fortunate to have had some experience in the analog world early early in my music days!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Simple is better.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating is hands down my favorite. I also really enjoy collaborating and connecting with clients. The clients’ satisfaction is the best reward!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My own EP of latin pop music in Canada.

A: High quality product.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: When is the turnaround time and how many revisions? 3-5 days turnaround with upto 2 free revisions.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I can only sing and record a little. I’ve developed years mastering skills in music technology. I’ve written, recorded, edited and produced many tracks. This is what I do.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What artists and songs inspired the song we are working on? It helps guide my work :)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: To have raw song ideas, reference tracks or examples of what the client wants the track to sound like. I strive to understand the clients' vision as clearly as they do.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Microphone, headphones, midi controller, laptop and guitar.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been a singer and writer most my life. I have been working professionally for 15 years give or take.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Pop dreamy melodic with a latin flavor.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I am versatile and I love to explore. My voice and style puts me in a mainstream pop style with latin pop and jazz elements.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication. It’s very important where the client wants to bring the song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creativity and quality.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Once I receive detailed instructions and files from the client, I layout the song in my DAW. After doing the work requested, I send a reference mix for approval. I allow up to 2 rounds of final revisions if needed. Upon job approval and project marked "complete", I finalize and deliver all dry stems in WAV.
