Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Digital. It's important for me that I'm able to work from anywhere.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: That the job is only finished when you're happy with the final result.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: The collaboration. Getting to work on a variety of genres and artists but at the same being able to express my ideas.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: I think oftentimes people confuse music production with beat making or mixing and it is so much more than that. It's the producer's job to create, arrange and record an instrumental to your song (might change the chords, bpm, structure to best serve the track), help with writing or vocal harmonies if needed and have the song mixed and mastered.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What's the story behind the song, what's your timeframe?

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: To be self sufficient when it comes to recording their own vocals. It's quite easy to get good at it and nowadays you can buy a decent interface and microphone for a cheap price and you'll never have to pay for studio time again.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: My computer (with Logic), an interface, studio monitors, a midi keyboard and my microkorg.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I studied music production in secondary school from age 16 to 19 years old. When I finished the course in 2015, I started producing for my band, Vaarwell and got invited to write the music for a play and perform it at 50 shows. In 2016, I started producing and songwriting professionally which alongside touring and sound engineering has been my job for the last 6 years.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: An outsider's perspective. Which, from my experience, helps a lot with making the best parts of the song stand out as well as with polishing what needs to sound better.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I do musical arrangements and music production. My job is to make sure the artist's vision translates into a great piece of art.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: While every project is different, I feel that listening is the most important thing in every song I work on. Firstly, I listen to demo and take notes of every detail that I like in it and everything I can do to make it better. Then I start working on the first idea for the production (taking into account the artist's references and influences). Communication with the artists also a really important thing so we'll go back and forth with the arrangement and production until the artist is completely happy with the final result. I always respect the artist's vision and I do everything I possibly can to make sure that vision translates into the project and communicates to the artist's audience.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I use Logic as my main DAW to create the arrangements and produce. My studio has electric guitars, bass, tube amps, acoustic guitars, guitar pedals, synthesizers and mics. I also use an AKAI MK49 to help me create arrangements. Soundtoys plug-ins are my favourite to use because they're very quick to use while helping me to get to creative ideas.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: I usually work on Indie/Alt/Electro Pop and indie electronic.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: The producers that have influenced me the most are: Finneas, Justin Vernon, James Blake, Jamie xx and Kanye West.
