Interview with Bobbi Fallon

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: If I receive a beat I come up with a melody and then add lyrics later I will double the vocal for texture and add harmonies where it suits best. If I write a song from scratch, I pick a key, a time signature and a tempo and usually flow from there.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Bluesy and soulful pop with an Amy Winehouse tone.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Pop, house, dance and R&B and Soul

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: I am currently working on my debut EP. It hasn't been released yet but I am already proud because I have been working towards it for two years and it is finally coming together so beautifully and at a time in my life that makes sense.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: Writing an Ep, top-lining pop and dance tracks and studying at music school.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Digital. As much as I enjoy the sound of analog, digital is a lot faster to work with and can be manipulated more. However both take skill.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: To be absolute true to the music and what it calls for.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: Being able to connect people and resonate with people through personal story-telling.

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: That it is easy and simple to come up with melody and lyric ideas in such a short space of time and that recording vocals is quick to do. Being a songwriter and singer depends on the creative space and emotional stability as much as it does on the voice itself.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: What is your intention behind the creation of a track?

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Condensor mic, Interphase, laptop (with Logic Pro), MIDI keyboard and amp.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been singing my entire life and work as a top liner and songwriter while studying a songwriting degree at Berklee College of Music.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Adele, she is so honest in her work and everything she writes resonates with me on such a deep level. Her raw and organic sound inspires me to do the same.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: When it comes to vocal production one should learn how to edit themselves and find the best microphone for their sound, not all microphones bring out the best sounds for some people. A mic "shootout" is always a good idea before recording vocals.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: My strongest skill is how quickly I can come up with melodies and ideas. It is also my technical abilities and understanding of my instrument.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring attitude and confidence, I also get into the depths of emotions in the songs, I like to belt so a lot of my songs have a wide range and big build up to the "big note". At other times I can go for a laid-back husky sound that's super chilled and calming but still has a grit to it.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: Rode NT1 condensor microphone, PreSonus Audiobox iTwo, Logic ProX

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: Jordan Rakei, Zak Abel, Mark Ronsen, Yebba, Anderson Paak, Jorja Smith, Joy Crookes, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: Top-lining on dance tracks and songwriting.
