Josie is a really fun vocalist to work with. I am a content creator who makes cover videos for my social media accounts and I had the pleasure of featuring Josie in one of my videos. We covered an Allen Stone song. Josie was professional and timely, and great at communication. She has an incredibly rich voice that is so unique to her. I would recommend her highly.

Interview with Josie B.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing and writing songs for the last 13 years. I moved to Nashville 8 years ago, and have been doing this kind of work ever since.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My most recent project was a collaboration with a Hip-Hop producer. I wrote a hook for the break and it was a lot of fun. I had never written for hip-hop before that. We ended up completing two songs in that session.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment I am writing for an R&B project.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes. Kris Bradley from BoomFox Productions.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because technology has come such a long way.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to make them feel understood and well taken care of.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love being inspired by music from other people's minds and hearts. It is so much fun to add to someone else's art.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What artists inspire you? Do you have any reference tracks? What feeling do you want this song to instill in your listeners?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to as many samples of work as you can before choosing someone to sing/write songs for your tracks. Make sure you actually are a fan of them as an artist.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Guitar, PA/Amp, Microphone, laptop.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as indie/pop and very soulful.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: My number one music production tip is to stay true to what you feel in the session. If it sounds good, try it. Don't be afraid to mess up.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I typically work on pop/indie/alternative music or any variation of the three.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is definitely my lyrical ability. I would also say that my singing voice is very strong.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring soulful vocals and a fresh attitude to every song I write. Whatever the genre, I bring in a sense of individuality and new ideas.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually pull in a work tape to begin my sessions. I play the tracks on a loop and do a rough melodic take to get an overall feel for how I want the song to turn out. I have my notes open throughout my entire songwriting process, and I write down all of my ideas as I listen to the track. I track parts as I write them, and then once the song is written, I re-track and comp.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is in my home in a quiet neighborhood.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am constantly inspired by so many vocalists, especially soulful women like Adele, Ari Lennox, and Rachael Price. I love Tom Misch for his production and guitar skills. I also love classic Motown music. It inspires me to make music that makes people want to dance.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most commonly write lyrics and melodies for pre-existing tracks.
