Interview with Profile User 275542

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recorded Upright Bass on the Good Morning Nags' Hard Hope. The sound on "Birmingham" could break through a brick wall it's so powerful. So happy to be a part of that album.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on an instrumental version of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" as well as a few other covers and originals.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I am brand new here.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. I love analog, but a lot of the finest sound qualities these days are lost on the general population unfortunately. This doesn't mean we should sacrifice on sound, but often times the public demands something quicker.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will use my experience and skills to enhance YOUR vision. I will not use your art to glorify myself.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love being a part of great art. I using my strengths to help someone achieve their vision.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How long I've been playing. Have you ever heard.... If the answer is "no", then I'll check it out.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That musicians aren't serious and professional when it comes to their work.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Mainly, BPM, What style, or sound are you looking to emulate.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be as thorough as you can, but don't worry, if you're not exactly sure what you want, I can help you figure it out.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: All my basses, laptop, and interface.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been playing for 27 years. Started off in local bands, then became a session artist and teacher after moving to NYC. I have released some experimental bass music.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Groovy, playful, tasteful.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Zero 7. Cool, moody music with good grooves.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Good pre-production streamlines the whole process and makes for a quicker and tighter turnaround.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Singer/Songwriter, Folk, Rock, Country, Funk, RnB, Bluegrass, Pop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Technique and taste. I try to prepare myself to be able to play anything, without turning the song into a bass feature (unless that's what you want).

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: The ability to either hide as a supporting role for more important parts, the ability to change and improve the feel with years of real experience in many styles, often times a cool idea you may not have considered.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Usually I chart the song and then start recording using any provide notes. After that I send and fix any issues.
