Sevi Ettinger

Singer, vocal arranger

Sevi Ettinger on SoundBetter

I am an experienced singer, background vocalist, and arranger. If you need someone to lay over backup vocals with distinct and melodically satisfying harmonies, provide feedback on or help structure a song, or need a lead singer for a track, I’ve got you covered.

My advanced ear and sound come from my extensive mentorship from legendary producers in the industry while I pursued my own music career. On my first EP, “Salty Water - EP,” I worked with producers Phillip Jarrell and Jeff Bova (Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Grammy-winning producer for Celine Dion's "Falling Into You"). In 2020, I worked with multi-platinum winning producer, David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman, Duran Duran) on "We Can Be The Universe,” of which the remix was made #18 on UK Music Week Top 40 Commercial Pop Charts and plays on SiriusXM Radio. Through recording and writing music alongside great talents, my sound, intuition, leadership in the studio, and efficiency in vocal performance is at a high level. I am currently music director for my Boston University acapella group, In Achord, where I instruct vocal performance techniques to assure a strong group sound. This has culminated into an EP, “Theoretically Forever,” to which many of the arrangements I contributed. For business inquiries, please contact me at sevirecords@yahoo.com. Interview with Sevi Ettinger

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: What energy are you looking for in this track? How can I make this song come to life for you? What style of vocals are you looking for?

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: Making my song, “We Can Be The Universe,” was a really fulfilling experience. I started out with a vision for the song and seeing its ability to change from electro pop to symphonic pop was so cool. It challenged my music mind and allowed me to think about how I could adapt the same melody into different contexts. In addition to the production aspect, I performed this song live in many different styles, from upbeat to orchestral. I’ve never engaged more with a song and it showed me how far openness to change can get you.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: I hope for the process to be efficient and honest. If there is something you want to hear that you’re not getting, let me know and I can fix it!

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I began my official music career at the age of 15 when I put out my first single, “Salty Water.” I have since worked with a number of talents in the music industry, producers Phillip Jarrell and Jeff Bova (Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Grammy-winning producer for Celine Dion's "Falling Into You"). Together, we created my first EP, Salty Water - EP, the songs of which I wrote by myself. In 2019, I collaborated with DJ Shaan, the #1 most followed DJ in India and first Indian artist to sign with EMI/Virgin Records, who produced my song, Universe (Sevi Ettinger). In 2020, I worked with multi-platinum winning producer, David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman, Duran Duran). We started with "Dear Me", which brings a new vibe to my storytelling and then released one of my favorite songs to date, "We Can Be The Universe". Grammy nominated artist and DJ Stonebridge then remixed the song, which made #18 on UK Music Week Top 40 Commercial Pop Charts and plays on SiriusXM Radio. We recently released another remix of my original song, "Outta My Head". Through recording and writing music, I have gained a strong foundation for vocal performance and music production. My experiences qualified me as a music director for my Boston University acapella group, In Achord, where I instructed vocal performance techniques to assure a strong group sound. This culminated into an EP, “Theoretically Forever,” available on streaming platforms.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: Rhythmic, harmonious, full

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Don’t be complacent with repetition. Think about ways to make the song better, not just repeat it.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Pop, singer songwriter, RnB, EDM/electric pop.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: My intuition and ear when it comes to music. If something sounds good, I am very attentive to it and do my best to incorporate it into a song.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I am extremely attentive to melody, so I don’t neglect its quality. I also am sure that the song sustains and builds well, and I take my time in terms of its structure. My high quality vocals and blend adds to the music.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I listen. A lot. I really take my time to get to know the tracks, to assemble sounds, and figure out what goes together. I experiment agin and again until something clicks.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I use a Blue Snowball microphone and my Mac computer. It’s a very simple setup but it’s reliable and has allowed me to produce vocals at a high quality.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I’ve recently been incredibly inspired by RAYE. Her independent music career allows her songwriting to be authentic and unique. Her ability to build a song is impeccable. Not to mention, her vocal style ranges from operatic to rap to EDM.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: With my soprano vocal range, I can provide lead and backup vocals for your tracks. I also enjoy providing feedback on drafts and critiquing the structure and build of a song.
